Russian third seed Elena Bovina defeats Belgian #468 ranked Caroline Maes 6-1, 6-1 in the first round of the Gaz de France Stars in Hasselt, Belgium.
Bovina only
needed 51 minutes to end Caroline Maes’ adventure before a home crowd of nearly
100 spectators. The first day of the main draw didn’t attract large crowds,
during the day and evening sessions there were not more then 100 spectators.
Maes, Kim
Clijsters best friend, could not find a way to overcome Bovina’s attacks. She
just was not good enough to upset the large Russian.

It was only
in the 6th game that Bovina didn’t break Maes’ service game. At 5-1 Bovina
served for the first set, taking it in the 31st minute.
In the
second set Maes held serve for a 1-0 lead in the second set. There was not much
more that she could do and she had to face a 6-1 defeat. Ending the match 6-1,
6-1 in 51 minutes.
Czech Denisa Chladkova defeated Aranxta Parra Santonja in two sets 6-1, 6-4.
