Amelie Mauresmo showed her winning capabilities once more cruising into the third round and looking more and more relaxed and in form each round Mauresmo who is scheduled to meet Henin-Hardenne who also enjoyed a straight forward win could finally win her first Grand Slam.

The Frenchwoman lost just seven points in the opening set as she romped to a straightforward 6-0, 6-2 victory over Slovakia's Ludmila Cervanova and next plays Annabel Medina-Garrigues of Spain.

Henin-Hardenne played Camille Pin of France, and pushed the world number one in the second set breaking serve once but that was not enough going down 6-1, 6-4.

The US Open and French Open winner complained afterwards that she has a bug which could cost her the title if it prolongs any further.

She faces a stiff challenge from Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova after she beat Antonella Serra Zanetti 7-6 (7/0), 6-4.

Lindsay Davenport, the only former winner in the draw, produced a sluggish performance when up against Emiilie Loit, who held match point over Serena Williams at the first round stage last year battling to a three set win, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0.

But the American knows how to play Grand Slams and does know to keep her best tennis for when it matters, possible Quarter-final with Henin-Hardenne is on the cards.

Daniela Hantuchova the struggling Slovak once again displayed a poor performance, and looked weak against Alicia Molik. Hantuchova who sacked her coach Nigel Sears last year has got extremely thin and showing no power on the court no more.

Molik the Australian home girl won 6-4, 6-3 to advance into the third round.
