Michaella Krajicek’s first match on the WTA tour could have easily filled centre court today. Many people could not see her debut played on court number one. Maybe that was a little too much pressure for the 14 year old who seemed a little upset and walked away crying after the match was finished.

Michaella said earlier that she prefers to play on red clay while she is used to play on that surface. She only practised on grass for a few days prior to her debut at The Ordina Open. She recently had her first pressconference in front of 20 people staring at her at Roland Garros where she reached the semi final in the Junior competition. And she loved it. She was thrilled to play her first match in the WTA tournament and she almost could not wait till today and wanted to start on Friday after her first practise on grass.

Uzbekistan’s Iroda Tulyaganova had an easy day at the office. She defeated Lina Krasnoroutskaya from Russia who always prefers to play on grass. They have met before on grass when Iroda Tulyaganova defeated her at the 1999 Wimbledon junior singles where Krasnoroutskaya was ranked #1 at that time.

Tulyaganova started out with a somewhat weak serve untill she broke Krasnoroutskaya with a love the fourth game taking a 3-1 lead. The Russian is just 4 places behind on Tulyaganova who is ranked # 41. From then Krasnoroutskaya never was a threat to Tulyaganova who started to use her first serve as a weapon ending up with four aces and two double faults. The scorching sun took its toll when a ballgirl had to leave the court, she was overcome by the heat.  

Tulyaganova won the first set 6-3 before she almost walked over Krasnoroutskaya and finishing the match leaving a 6-0 on the scoreboard for the victory. Iroda Tulyaganova will be up against Anca Barna from Germany who took out a very convincing victory from the world champion and number two in the doubles ranking Virginia Ruano Pascual from Spain. The German number 64 on the singles ranking defeated the #51 ranked Ruano Pascual 6-1 6-0.

Elena Dementieva from Russia was facing stiff competition in her meeting against Emilie Loit from France. Both players broke each other’s serve in the 9^th and 10^th game of the first set and had to play a deciding tiebreak. Loit failed to score the big points and Dememtieva took the first set with

7-3 in the tiebreak.

Emilie Loit lost her first serve in the second set but got her rebreak in the 8^th game equalizing for 4-4. In the 11^th game Loit couldn’t hold her serve and Dementieva took the 5-6 lead and serving for the match winning it 7-6 (3) 7-5.

Cara Black from Zimbabwe defeated Slovakian Henrieta Nagyova 6-3 6-2. Tina Pisnik from Slovenia defeats Italian Flavia Pennetta 6-3 6-1. The number 8 seed Katarina Srebotnik defeated compatriot Maja Matevzic in two sets 6-2 6-4. Marlene Weingartner from Germany defeats American 7^th seed Ashley Harkleroad in three sets 6-7 6-3 6-4.
