Sixth seed Klara Koukalova of the Czech Republic beat wild card Zsofia Gubasci of Hungary 6-2, 6-4 in the first round.

Koukalova broke Gubacsi at 2-1, traded breaks then won six straight games to lead 6-2, 2-0.

Gubacsi broke back twice, but Koukalova broke Gubacsi a seventh time to secure her place in the second round.

Meanwhile Silvija Talaja lost to Prusova and Casablanca Open runner up and eight-seed Antonella Serra Zanetti of Italy battled her way past Rossana Neffa-de los Rios of Paraguay in two tight tiebreak sets 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (9-7) to secure a second round
