Defending champion Magui Serna defeated German qualifier Julia Schruff in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, to successfully defend her Estoril Open championship which she won last year The second-seeded Serna, who crushed the the draw including French rising start and number 3 seed Virginie Razzano, 6-0, 6-1, pocketing $22,000 for her victory.

Schruff advanced to the final in her debut WTA Tour event. She failed to become the seventh woman in professional tennis history to win her debut WTA Tour event.

The German who beat top seed Katarina Srebotnik, Ludmila Cervanova and Emmanuelle Gargliardi found it difficult to compete with her thight heavily strapped, she also won 8 matches in 9 days.
