Number 2 seed Justine Henin-Hardenne thrashed top seeded and World Number 1 Serena Williams in the final of Family Circle Cup, Charleston Henin-Hardenne who has had a difficult time through the tournament with 3 set battles against Tina Pisnik then Nathalie Dechy picked up her game against Mary Pierce and Ashley Harkleroad. Whereas Serena had an easier passage through not dropping a set and beating Lindsay Davenport at the semi-final stage.

The Belgian started off in determined mood after setting herself a challenge of beating the American who was on a 21-0 winning streak and did it in fantastic fashion.

Henin-Hardenne took the first set 6-3 but found herself 3-1 down in the first set looking like Williams would steam roll past the Belgian but that didn't happen.

The second seed used her most powerful and dangerous weapon her backhand to win the match in a famous victory. The Belgian number 2 goes into next weeks Bausch & Lomb tournament where she is reached the final last year in tremendous form.

(2) J HENIN-HARDENNE (BEL) bt (1) S WILLIAMS (USA)
6-3, 6-4
