Defending champion and fifth seed Patricia Wartusch crashed out in the second round at the hands of Anastassia Rodianova of Russia Rodianova ranked 124th in the world, gained a comprehensive 6-2, 6-2 victory over her Austrian opponent.

Fourth seed Klara Koukalova of the Czech Republic was another surprise casualty, losing 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 to Italy's Antonella Serra Zanetti.
