Third seed and Swiss number one Patty Schnyder crashed out in the first round of the Sarasota Classic, Flordia against American Wild Card Ansley Cargill 113th ranked Cargill beat Schnyder 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 as the Swiss star struggles to rekindle her form from last year losing for a third consecutive time.

Cargill said that the experience she gained losing to Venus Williams in the Australian Open has helped her game.

Seventh seed Nathalie Dechy, who won her first career singles title in January, eased through by beating Denisa Chladkova.

"When I was playing against Patty I told myself I had played against bigger fish," Cargill said. "I had been losing in the last rounds of qualifying tournaments lately."

In the other opening-round matches, seventh-seeded Nathalie Dechy of France defeated Denise Chladkova of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-2, Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand topped Shenay Perry of the United States 7-6 (2), 6-2.

Marie-Gaianeh Mikaelian of Switzerland downed Daja Bedanova of the Czech Republic 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
