Justine Henin had some trouble getting into the match against Virginia Ruano Pascual. The doubles champion from Spain took the first two games of the match but just missed the key points to win the first set. Although the #5 ranked Justine Henin-Hardenne from Belgium won the first set 6-2 it was always a close match.

After being down 0-2 Henin managed to take 8 straight games and was leading 6-2 2-0. The second set turned to be somewhat easier for Henin but the doubles specialist Ruano Pascual did win some good points and worked hard to make it a match. She could not make the points that really matter and lost the second set 6-2.

Maybe because of the hard fought match against Davenport Justine Henin produced 31 unforced errors and won 70 points. Ruano Pascual had 20 unforced errors and won 50 points. Henin said that she was in bad shape yesterday due to the match against Davenport and that she could not practise at all. She was sure that she would feel better during the match because she had a good nights rest and a lot of massage. Being in the quarterfinal also gives that extra boost to give it a 100%, go on court and win the match.

Venus Williams, Henins next opponent in the semi finals, won her match against Daniela Hantuchova in 75 minutes. The No. 7 seed Hantuchova from Slovakia didn’t have the strength to outplay Venus Williams. She has been beaten by Venus Williams for the second time at that Australian Open.

Williams won her match 6-4, 6-3 but was not really happy with the way she played. She thought she had too many errors but she saw she was playing her best match of the tournament so far. But she also said she is always aiming for perfection.
