Lindsay Davenport faced Slovakian star Daniela Hantuchova in a mouth-watering quarter-final match up producing a fantastic match. Former World Number 1 Lindsay Davenport re-established herself amongst the top field once again. Having spent most of last year out and much speculation over whether she would return at all showing that she is capable of winning more Grand Slams and ruin the domination between the Williams sisters.

Davenport found herself 4-1 down in the first set as Hantuchova powered her way through looking certain to take the first set. The Davenport of old started to turn up with her blistering backhands and her serve which faultered early on in the match. Davenport broke at 4-4 to lead 5-4 and served out the first set for 6-4.

Hantuchova once again found herself infront in the second set and knew that if she didn't hold on for this set then she would let the match slip away. Hantuchova held her nerve and gained the second set 6-3.

Things once again went in favour of the Slovakian edging to a 4-2 lead only to see Davenport return and lead 5-4 where Hantuchova was serving to stay in the match and found herself up against a matchpoint. The youngster used her precision and produced a fantastic corss court angle with Davenport just watching it fly pass her.

Hantuchova and Davenport held on to their serve for 6-6 and forced a tie break. The first mini-break went to Hantuchova going 3-1 up but this wasn't to be her day, going in the lead most of the time during the match she found herself 6-3 down. It was all over after Hantuchova served a double fault handing the win over to Davenport with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (3) scoreline.

Davenport now plays Tatiana Panova who knocked out top seed Jennifer Capriati in the first round, booked her place in the semi-finals with a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 win over Olga Barabanschikova.
