Kim Clijster added another victory to her record after beating Serena Williams. The number five seed from Belgium needed 85 minutes to take the season ending tournament. After an awkward start, where Clijsters lost her first serve, the Belgian struggled through the first set. She just managed to hold on and break back at Williams serve. Serena Williams had 35 unforced errors leading to a 7-5 lead for Clijsters.

In the second Clijsters only broke once at Williams serve. This turned out just good enough to take the second set. The 19 year-old from Bree, Belgium took the victory on her first matchpoint ending the match 7-5 6-3.

Kim Clijsters collected her glass trophy and a $ 765,000 cheque.
