Steve Harkness has agreed terms with Chester and is due to sign over the weekend. Harkness will be Mark Wright's 10th pre season transfer. The former Liverpool centre back joins City from Sheffield Wednesday and will play the role of a player/coach. The defender will play on a non contract basis at the Deva.

Wright stated "I did the deal with Steve last night" "Steve Harkness has signed with a view to coming to Chester as a player-coach"

The 30 year old can play in four positions and this is why manager Mark Wright has been chasing him stated City chairman Steven Vaughan.

Harkness has played for high profile clubs as, Liverpool, Blackburn, Benfica and Sheffield Wednesday.

Vaughan added: "There were a number of First and Second Division clubs chasing him (including local rivals Tranmere) but he's back in Liverpool and wanted to stay local.

"He has dropped down because of his own personal reasons, not because he is finished at that level".

The anticipation is great at Chester and the thought of a ex premiership star treading the Deva's turf just adds to the growing excitment around the city. The transfer is the 10th that Mark Wright has made so far in the pre season warm up - lets hope they gel together quickly.
