1 min – Mark Tucker broke down the left-wing, with an inside pass to Avramovic, who raced through to score on 5 yards in from the left wing. James Brown’s attempted conversion from around the 22 was pushed slightly to the right of the posts.

Wuss 5-0 Leeds

3 mins – Avramovic running a good line again, made another break into the Leeds 22, although nothing came of the resulting phase.

6 mins – Aleki Lutui battered through the Leeds defensive line over towards the right wing, ball came into Tim Collier and the Gavin Quinnell who both took players with them.

Worcester gained a line-out on the left wing, and from a catch and drive and rolling maul, Aleki Lutui dived from the back over the line for a try. James Brown converted this time from an almost identical position to the last kick.

Wuss 12-0 Leeds

10 Mins – James Brown tackled the on-coming Leeds scrum-half well, but landed awkwardly and received attention to his ankle. He got back up after a minute or two and continued the game.

12 mins – From a Worcester scrum, Gavin Quinnell broke from the back, inside pass to Gary Trueman who broke through a couple of the Leeds defensive players, before passing slightly forward as he was tackled.

13 mins – The Leeds fly-half (Richard Vasey), made very good break jinking in and out of a number of Worcester defenders before being brought down around the Worcester 10m  line.

16 mins – From a Worcester scrum in their own half, James Brown passed left to Uche Oduoza, but at his feet, Uche knocked on to concede a scrum, which Worcester disrupted well.

Peter Wackett off, Leeds No. 20 on (Scott Armstrong?)

20 mins – The Leeds No. 12 (Rob Vickerman) clashed accidentally with Gary Trueman with the ball in play, and went down very heavily. After a long break, he eventually managed to hobble off the pitch with a knee injury (we believe it was a cruciate ligament injury as found out after the game).

22 mins – Leeds cleared high from their own 22, with Mark Tucker underneath the ball, the Leeds no. 20 took Mark out before the ball had come down, he was given a stern telling off from the referee (Alan Biggs), and lucky not to receive a yellow card.

James Brown turned down the kickable penalty, and opted for the lineout (as we did all night, and as Leeds did too)

Catch and drive move, with Aleki Lutui breaking off the back again, ball out to Gary Trueman, making another good break before knocking the ball on just short of the try line.

24 mins – Wuss pushed the ball over from a scrum, scored by James Collins over on the right-hand side of the field. Another difficult conversion for James Brown kicked with confidence between the posts.

Wuss 19-0 Leeds

27 mins – The Leeds No.21 (Tom Whittaker?)  made a very good break through a static Worcester defence, and was hauled down just short of the try-line.

32 mins – Leeds line out on left-hand side, quickly switched the ball over towards the right, and nearly broke through, coming up just short of the try-line again, from the ensuing ruck the play was switched quickly to the left, where a long pass was intercepted by Gary Trueman. Just as he was thinking he would have an easy breakaway try, the referee called the play back for a Leeds scrum at the place of the original ruck. (Though not sure why?)

33 mins – From that scrum the Leeds scrum-half switched the ball quickly to the left again, and as Leeds had a 2 man overlap looked sure to score, the player with the ball didn’t pass and was swallowed up by the Worcester defence, and managed to turn him over to gain a scrum.

41 mins – From a Worcester scrum, a simple play allowed Avramovic to break through the middle of the Leeds defence to score under the posts. Simple conversion for James Brown.

Wuss 26-0 Leeds

HALF TIME – Worcester ‘A’ 26 – 0 Leeds ‘A’

Before kick-off Aleki Lutui replaced by James Tideswell, and Tim Collier replaced by Ben Blackhall. Matt Mullan moved to hooker.

41 mins – From a Worcester up & under clearance, Uche chased very well catching the Leeds receiver, but unfortunately conceded a penalty for not rolling away.

42 mins – Gary Trueman made another good break through the Leeds defence, but nothing further came from the move.

47 mins – Leeds lineout 10 meters out from the Worcester try-line, stolen by Worcester. The clearance kick was, however charged down, and the resulting attack from Leeds was defended well and held up on the try-line.

49 mins – Leeds broke down the right wing, grubber kick, covered very well by Chris Pennell and touched down for a 22 drop out. A long drop out from James Brown picked up by Leeds in their own 22, which was then cleared over Uche’s head towards the Worcester 22. Uche recovered the ball after an awkward bounce, passed inside to James Brown who slipped with 3 attacking Leeds players running straight him. Somehow he got back up with the ball still in hand then jinked his way in and out of all them (and more supporting Leeds players), passed out to Uche on the right wing, who was tackled extremely well by the Leeds no. 17 (Johnny Hampsey we believe, despite the team sheet saying different)

56 mins – Mark Tucker broke well, with Craig Everett in support, Worcester gained a penalty in front of the posts, for presumably a Leeds offside. Again the line out option was taken. Ball came out from the lineout to James Brown in the centre (Leeds 22 line), a little grubber kick through the Leeds players and Uche ran through before they could react to touch down. Easy conversion again for James.

Wuss 33-0 Leeds

Miguel Avramovic off, Alex Grove on.

61 mins – The Leeds No.18 had a good break in the centre of the pitch, taking 3 Worcester players to drag him down. Worcester got a penalty for holding on.

63 mins - A defensive lineout on the Worcester try-line was thrown too far, but fortunately Worcester managed to clear up afterwards.

65 mins – The Leeds no.17 looked to break down the left wing, and despite his pace, was taken out by Uche Oduoza, who was looking more confident now he had scored his try.

66 mins – Uche made a quick break down the right wing, came in off his right wing and then ran a straight line, before unluckily juggling the ball as he was tackled – by now the rain was coming down heavily and holding the ball, was at best, very difficult! Not to mention trying to write stuff down for this report!

70 mins – Gary Trueman off, Greg Evans on. Uche Oduoza off, Jamie Lennard on.

74 mins – Alex Grove broke down the right-wing wing, kicked and chased and was promptly overtaken by Chris Pennell who kicked the ball further on into the Leeds try area. Under the pressure of the young Worcester backs, the covering Leeds player was forced into being tackled in his own try area. Worcester 5 metre scrum.

By now, I had given up all hope of watching the action and writing at the same time, writing on my pad, was almost like trying to write on toilet the paper!!

The last 5 mins or so was pretty much Worcester camped on the Leeds try-line, who defended very well to continually hold Worcester up, despite a number of attacking scrums.

FINAL SCORE Worcester ‘A’ 33-0 Leeds ‘A’

Another entertaining game of rugby at a wet Sixways. Worcester had by far the more experienced side, and it showed throughout most of the game. Another good crowd also, and again vocal too, especially for Aleki, and also when Miguel bowed to the West stand when substituted in the 2^nd half. Apart from the obvious positives about returning/new players, it was very good to see the youngsters hold Leeds out in the 2^nd half, a few nervy moments, but discipline was kept, and pressure survived.

Again my opinions on a select few of the players in action:

• James Brown – Another good game. Made good breaks, only missed one difficult kick.
• Aleki Lutui – 40 mins of pure class. Leeds ‘A’ wasn’t much of a contest for him, but he performed well. He is big and very hard to take down, very quick, always getting into the rolling maul within a second of throwing the ball in from the lineouts. I think all lineouts won on our own throw too when Aleki was hooking.
• Tim Collier – Again looking fitter, and proving that he could be a good impact player for the 1^st team this season.
• Craig Everett – Probably my MOTM. Supported all the attacks very well, and stood out in the 2^nd half when the more senior players were taken off.
• Gavin Quinnell – Good performance at No.8 (despite wearing No.6), gives the 1^st team a very different option.
• Johnny Arr – Was a big night for the young RGS scrum-half, didn’t do himself any harm, I would expect him to be an academy player of the future.
• Uche Oduoza – Quiet first half, but impressive 2^nd half. The try gave him the confidence booster he needed, and tackled well after that, not letting the very quick Leeds No. 17 (Johnny Hampsey?) past.
• Chris Pennell – Very effective, very quick full back. Could certainly expect a few bench places for the 1^st team this year.

• Rob Vickerman – Looked dangerous until he went off with knee injury.
• Leeds No.18 (Scott Freer?) – Big impact player, very difficult to tackle.
• Leeds No.17 (Johnny Hampsey) – Very quick, former U-18 England international, tackled well too, gave Uche a good run, and ultimately helped Uche prove his worth.
• Richard Vasey – Leeds fly-half, made some half breaks providing Leeds with some decent attacking opportunities.
