A Googly from Sherry

An Indian summer is livening up the cricket scene in England. Packed stadiums enjoy the England-India matches to the hilt, enthusiastically cheering on the teams, blowing whistles and horns, waving flags and banners, and generally having a whale of a day. Meanwhile, the paying customer watches the action from afar on the idiot box. He finds himself subjected to an incessant droning which he tries unsuccessfully to tune out. The unimaginative, dull monotone of Paul Allott weighs heavily on the proceedings, accompanied by the tedious chatter of David Gower, the insipid babble of Bob Willis, and the joyless whinging of Ian Botham.

In the midst of the endless monotony comes an oasis of color: Navjot Sidhu. The viewer wakes up from a coma induced by the lifeless commentators to hear the likable "Sherry" say things which are alternately hilarious, mystifying, exasperating, and enlightening - just never BORING! Here's a sampling of Sherry.. and here's to hoping he stays on to bowl his googlies during the Test series!

  • That ball went so high it could have got an air hostess down with it!
  • A girl born beautiful is half married.
  • The Indians need to behave like they are in a boat with a hole. There's no team co-operation!

  • Ganguly is like Jack of Jack n Jill who goes to fetch pail of runs for the opposition... (poor fielder)
  • Umpires are like traffic police -the techniques they use to give a decision are outdated.
  • Flip the coin and there is no head or tail. (India playing aimless cricket)
  • When batting, Harbhajan could be a windmill with a single blade during a hurricane.
  • He is strutting around wicket as proud as a peacock.
  • A barking dog is better than a sleeping lion. So go on Indians bark loud and let everyone hear you! louder!!!
  • The dog that barks last, barks best.
  • SUCCESS HAS MANY FATHERS .... FAILURE IS AN ORPHAN!!!!!
  • S. Ramesh's running between the wickets is like a snail going slow!
  • He is like an Indian transistor radio which does not work until you give it two slaps.
  • If you are trying to beat India in India, you are trying to get milk out of an ox.
  • Indian team is like the Indian monsoon. You just cant predict when there will be flood and when drought.
