A short-term statistical analysis, ignoring match situations and calibre of opposition, of the last 10 ODIs played by Indian batsmen explains their current doldrums. This article grades current Indian batsmen by averages and strike rates for the last 10 ODIs they have played for India.

Leaders by averages

Rahul Dravid: 43
Mahendra Dhoni: 41
Yuvraj Singh: 33
Sachin Tendulkar: 30
Mohammad Kaif: 30
VVS Laxman: 27
Virender Sehwag: 23
Sourav Ganguly: 23

Leaders by strike rates

Virender Sehwag: 109
Mahendra Dhoni: 98
Sachin Tendulkar: 81
Mohammad Kaif: 79

Observations

1. Dhoni is our best current batsman based on strike-rate and average.
2. Sourav Ganguly has the worst average and strike-rate.
3. Mohammad Kaif has a higher strike-rate than Yuvraj Singh.
4. Collectively, these are unimpressive numbers for India (especially the averages).
