Revenge is a dish best served cold.  But in the case of Dhoni and his men, it is simply a matter of being back home.  What a difference a few weeks and change in continents makes.

India who were thoroughly out played in England, failing to win a single game are now looking unbeatable.  Though to be fair, India had some very close games in the ODI series, and also had wretched luck with the weather, during that part of the tour. 

Now, however, India is making England look pretty ordinary, and even with a much under strength team, still missing Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, and Zaheer Khan, is wiping the floor with a near full strength England team.  India is back home and the swagger is back.

On the basis of the results in the ODIs so far, England is fortunate that they are not going to be playing Test matches in India anytime soon.  Chances are that in that format too their reversal of fortune would be just as dramatic, and their grip on the top spot in Test matches, fleeting.  However, either through luck or brilliant scheduling they don't play Test cricket for a long time, and even then they don't play India at home for even longer, so their reign as Test cricket numero unos is likely to be fairly long, though it remains to be seen if they can match India's 20 month stint at the top.

India meanwhile must aim for a 5-0 sweep in the ODI series to cleanse some of the humiliation that they suffered on their ill-fated summer tour to England.  And from the way things have gone so far, it would not be that surprising if they do just that.

The much awaited, world's top test team...and declared aspirants of w'cup arrival in India proved to be a damp squib...

when they could neither chase nor defend 300.....and were badly walloped.

what should have been a Marquee series proved a tame one sided affair confirming that Eng have a long way to go before they can be considred a true world class side

It seems to me the bad old days of doing very well at home and very poorly abroad are back.

This is the case for both teams - India and England.

Neither of these pretenders can claim to be a patch on Lloyd's Windies or Waugh's Aussies, who won everywhere.

So much for number 1 team - these guys are tigers at home and lambs abroad. There isn't a number 1 team any more.

Yes there isn't a DOMINANT numero uno like Lloyd and Richards's Windies or Waugh and Ponting's Aussies... but doesn't mean that there isn't a number one...

I would like England to hold on to their ranking for 2 years before saying that they are even as good as India were...for around 2 years that they held the No. 1 spot...

I didn't think India won one series away from home when they were number 1. England beat Australia at home last year 4-0. Something India has never done. This already makes England a superior team.

No it just means that Australia had fallen a long way...Anyway, it was 3-1 not 4-0...Australia beat England at the WACA...

Also England has not beaten India in India in a Test series since 1984... meanwhile India has beaten England twice in a Test series... 1986 and 2007...

True, India has been decidedly superior.

This last series was a one-off, enabled by injuries to India, biased umpires and fake DRS decisions.
