What a lousy game the Pakistanis played! It looked as if they were too scared to go all out and bowl and when they batted, they looked too scared to bat. Did the occasion overawe them?
Pakistan v. West Indies, March 13, 2007
Rameez Raja was shouting from the commentary box that what a masterstroke it was to get Kaneria into the team and yes it was a masterstroke, for the other team - he got murdered by Samuels...duh! Rameez! The fielding was typical subcontinent (leaving out the Lankans who are far better), it could easily have been India out there. Kaneria not only had trouble bowling but he had trouble deciding whether to tie his shoelaces or field the ball AT THE SAME TIME. Of course that his laces were never undone is another matter. Imran Nazir definitely needs a whack on his bottom. He looks like a kid and unlike so many kid-look-alikes, this guy bats like a 3 year old too. Rana definitely needs to do something different and no, growing a beard is not going to help his bowling. On the other hand it may add weight to his already chubby face and force his head to shift to the left side hence sending the ball down leg - see I am a quack when it comes to providing insights into fast bowling, just like Holding giving tips on batting.
The West Indies...they played well. This guy Collymore is definitely underrated. Though i hate the way he shakes his three fingers after a wicket (i have seen lots of fingers waved around, it usually is one in the middle, wonder what three means). Samuels is someone to watch out for, with the typical Windies flavor and once Lara retires, he is the one i will pay to watch, that is if he can get out of passing tips to bookies and concentrate on playing the game. Taylor has matured nicely over the last few months, while ShivCpaul - the way he is turning square on his stance it is a matter of time before he presents his derriere to the bowler - is the usual stoic one, and the rest are bits and pieces who on their day will come together, but otherwise remain in bits and pieces. You call them mercurial i call them ho hum.
Australia v. Scotland, March 14, 2007
"Punter Shoots His Load" - that should be the headline (no relation to his ranting over Sunny). Nothing much to write - The Aussies batted, they bowled, they went home to drink beer. To the credit of the Kilts, it took Aus 41 overs to bowl them out, i was thinking that Tait with his 160 kmph bullets would have finished them in two overs. I guess I understimated the fact that the Scots blow the bagpipe quite well and hence have more wind in their sails.
Kenya v. Canada, March 14, 2007
There was only one thing to write home about. One guy now has represented two countries in a WC for the third time. Naah..I am not going to find out the name of this guy...
