WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS signed out of the Premiership today following a 2-0 home defeat to Spurs. However the message from the Chairman after the games was "We'll be back".

It was slightly ironic that Steve Bennett, the man who was in charge of the Play Off final when Wolves clinched promotion to the Premier League was the man in the middle for Wolves final Premier League game for a year, at least. 

 

Wolves went down 2-0 to Spurs in a game which highlighted the reason why relegation has been the outcome for this season. ""It's been our downfall all along - giving quality players a shot on goal. You can't give gifts away like that." Said Dave Jones after the match. And how correct he was.

 

After one defensive lap which allowed old boy Robbie Keane to score his fourth goal against Wolves for this season, Carl Cort's weak back-pass found Defoe who slipped the ball past Jones into the net.

 

The partnership between Henri Camara and Carl Cort was not as potent as it had been in recent week's but Cort still managed to hit the bar following a bright early start for Wolves. 

 

However today was more about two players in particular than the performance itself. Denis Irwin retired from Football whilst Alex Rae played his final game in Old Gold before he moves to Scottish giants Rangers.

 

Irwin came close with a free-kick in the first half, but his career came to an emotional end when he was replaced by Jody Craddock with two minutes to go.

 

The Wolves have been relegated but if the words of Rick Hayward are to be believed, Premiership Football will be back at Molineux in just a season's time.
