3,000 WOLVES Fans stole
the show at St James' Park Today. The final Premiership away game for a season
was turned into a part atmosphere. Oh and we also ended their Champions League
Hopes.
"We're going down, but
we'll be back" was one of the numerous songs sang by the 3,000 traveling
support which were described as "incredible" by some of the country's
top TV and Radio pundits.
Whilst relegation is just
around the corner, 3,000 Wolves Fans filled the corner of the fourth tier at the
highly impressive St James' Park. “They were so far away from the pitch but it was all you could hear. They deserved a performance like the one we gave."
Said Dave Jones in his post-match interview.
And how correct he was. The
Wolves fans take some stick. Totally undeserved the majority of the time, but
this club will never die whilst the incredible Barmy Army follow the team they
love.
“It’s hurt us to be relegated and normally you have to pick the fans up – but it’s the supporters who are picking the players up because they can see there is light at the end of the tunnel. There’s a lot of optimism around the place.”
Dave Jones later added.
Lee Bowyer had opened the
scoring just before half time for the home side but Wolves battled and despite
being relegated, appeared to want it more than their black and white
counterparts.
Dave Jones sent Vio Ganea on
to try and bring the scored level after the break and the Romanian International
duly delivered. His right-foot shot was too powerful for Given in the Newcastle
goal and Wolves were back on level terms and deservedly so.
Pride and commitment was
shown from players and fans alike, so when man of the match Paul Jones saved
Alan Shearer's late penalty you could imagine the reaction from the fourth tier.
Our premiership away games
are finished for a little while but with support like this, St James' Park will
soon be beckoning once more.
