Match Thread: Wolves vs Preston North End (Carabao Cup)

Lots of History Here

By Wolves
August 23 2022

Wolves enter this season's Carabao Cup this evening with a Second Round home tie against old foes Preston North End, who they have faced many, many times in both clubs lengthy histories.

Tonight's game will be an opportunity for coach Bruno Lage to give an chance to deserving members of the squad, and to rest some first team regulars in between Premiership matches. So, in common with many other teams what may be seen as a 'weakened team' may well take to the pitch this evening to take on their Championship rivals. However it will be important not to underestimate Preston under their new Manager Ryan Lowe, as they have so far mounted an unbeaten start in the Championship, although this does involve four goalless draws and a 1 - 0 win at Luton Town.

Bruno Lage will surely want to test out some of his squad players this evening, including Matija Sarkic in goal, with perhaps Willy Boly taking charge in defence alongside Toti. We can also probably expect Nelson Semedo to get a run out continuing his recovery from injury, with perhaps Jonny getting a reintroduction at left wing back position. Either Joao Moutinho or Ruben Neves are likely to boss the midfield alongside Leander Dendoncker and Luke Cundle, with Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez featuring with Hee Chan Hwang in attack.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 7:45pm and our referee this evening will be Thomas Brammal. The game is not scheduled to be screened live.

This board will hope to provide regular updates on the progress of the game and the performance of the team. Board members are encouraged to post their own observations and join in the conversation.

Let's hope that we can hit the back of the net and start to make it a habit in the league fixtures.

Anyone going tonight?

Don’t think I’ll be in a position to get up there until October now.

As for Preston, please let us be able to score against them, get the ball rolling, literally!

Additionally, I read somewhere this week that the prize money for winning the final is a mere £100,000 - absolutely derisory.

Good to see a strong line up - those turning up are rewarded from that perspective - hopefully they’ll be rewarded with a positive performance and GOALS!!

I see Villa are on Hesgoal, not us. Personally I like this competition, nevertheless that prize money is dire.

Traore gets a second.

An angry wolf
23/08/2022 20:17
Traore should start upfront in league games, he cant finish well but his pace and strength would get him more goals than post injury raul and podence by the laws of averages

Apparently there are always settling in issues at the beginning of the season Angry and I therefore missed the first two games of the season. Having said that I watched the whole of the AJ v Usyk boxing match on Sat and hope that when Wolves are next not on the box - which I guess will be the Bournemouth match - things should be OK.

Semedo chips a ball into the area and Hwang is pulled down for a penalty. Raul let's Hwang take it and he fails with a soft shot. Let's hope Raul has learnt his lesson from that exercise!!!

The firestick itself is from Amazon Angry for £50. It's then a matter of knowing someone who can load the necessary App on to it for an annual charge, but once it is up and running it should give you access to all satellite TV, films and Sports.

In control according to the BBC, as it should be.

Hwang’s Penalty sounded weak

Sloppy passes in defence and possession is lost, and Preston take full advantage and score a good goal.

Just reading the PNE forum and they seem to have a reserve team out. We have scored 2 but expect more than that against this opposition... what a goal from adama btw

The whole set up needs to get the jitters / matchday confidence sorted. It's been too long now, and only goals and results can sort it. The team and the fans have been stuck in the doldrums for too many months now.

Cheshire wolf

PNE go close to getting the equaliser, but Joao clears. Jonny being prepared to come on possibly for Semedo. I think it was Adama who also went off when Neto came on

Five added minutes to play

Cheshire wolf

Wolves break and Neto gets a shot away which is saved, and that is the final action of the game, and Wolves go through to the next round. We played better in the first half and became a bit sloppy in the second half letting Preston get a goal in. A goo run out for Semedo, Jimenez and Traore.
