  After much media speculation, perhaps the poorest best kept secret has now been officially revealed …. Bruno Lage has been installed as the next Wolves Manager. The first thing to say is ‘best of luck’ from the Molineux Way to our new man and let’s hope his stay in WV1 is a success and provides plenty of positive memories, thrills and opportunities.

There is no doubt, Nuno will be a tough act to follow, not just in managerial ability but also in the way he was able to galvanise the fans and City behind the club. Nevertheless, it is pretty certain Lage will have his own approach and has been presented by various sources as ‘attack minded’.

Lage, full name Bruno Miguel Silva do Nascimento, is 45 and part and parcel of the Mendes camp, and similar to Nuno, gets his first Premier League opportunity with Wolves. Whilst never a manager in England he did act as the number 2 to Carlos Carvalhal at both Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea and subsequently had an extremely successful season at Benfica, winning the Portuguese title in 2019 prior to a run of poorer form leading to his dismissal. Interestingly, Lage hasn’t played the game at a professional level ….. but the same could be said of Jose Mourinho!

One big positive is that Lage’s relatively quick appointment gives Wolves the time to assess the much needed transfer market and address some of the stories of departure splashed all over the media gossip columns ….. Neves and Neto being a couple who have been mentioned as targets of others, though who knows the real inside track?

So, a new era for Wolves commences, good fortune, all the best and cheers to Lage.

We can only welcome him and wish him well. It certainly is a hell of a challenge to come in and take over from Nuno but he seems to be up for it. At least he too speaks good English[ - I always think it must be awful for Leeds fans trying to listen to Bielsa!!

Good luck to him. I said on another thread that he wouldn't have been my choice but that is mainly because I didn't know as much about him as other possible candidates. Now we have to get behind him and hope all goes well.

That’s all you can do Andy. I feel the same about his appointment, it is difficult to have real affinity or passionate opposition to a man you have only read about. You could say the same applied to Nuno when he came in ……. However it was rapidly clear things had changed after his arrival and we didn’t have to think to much whether it was a success ….. it so clearly was.

Now it’s different. Nuno has left a legacy and an expectation of advancement. It will be so tough for any future manager to have the same relationship with the fan ….. but not impossible. So yes, let’s support Lage! I hope he gets some time, I would hate us to become, let’s say, a Watford …. Hiring and firing at will.

It will be interesting to see which players in the current squad he chooses to place faith in and which may find themselves a bit more on the sidelines. With a reputation of nurturing and “blooding” youngsters some of the fringe players must be ready to take their chances when they come. Could be exciting and interesting times ahead.
