Wolves fans will surely have two players in their minds as we approach tonight's game at Anfield: Raul Jiminez and Diogo Jota. Everyone will still be mindful of the dreadful injury sustained by Raul at Arsenal a week ago, and wondering whether Diogo will punish us tonight for allowing him to leave Molineux in the summer.
Nuno Espirito Santo has given very positive feedback about the progress of Raul since his operation, so we can only allow him to look forward to returning home and anticipate his rehabilitation in hope that his recovery will be totally successful.
Meanwhile the number of first team players available to Jurgen Klopp appears to be reduced each week, and now could be seen as the best time to play his team at Anfield. Diogo Jota has found immediate success in the team since his £40 million transfer from Wolves and is likely to line-up and pose a great risk against his old colleagues today.
Wolves have no injury worries since the dramatic win at the Emirates last week, and have the added benefit of Romain Saiss returning following his brush with Covid-19. It can be guessed that Nuno will continue with the four man back four he has experimented with in the last two games, and that Fabio Silva will continue to deputise for Raul with support from Traore, Podence and Neto, but then Nuno is always capable of springing a surprise!!
Our referee today will be Craig Pawson
The game will kick off at 7:15pm and will be the first of our games this season to be screened live by Amazon Prime.
This board will hopefully carry regular updates, and members are encouraged to post their own observatioins for those unable to otherwise follow the game.
When you see the team that Liverpool have selected you know that our lads are going to have to be very respectful, not a night for any sloppiness or mistakes. We will need the pack mentality and not allow Liverpool any space or time on the ball. We do however have a front three that can cause a high level of discomfort for their defence as long as we can give them a decent supply from midfield. Not surprised to see Fabio on the bench but I would expect him to make an appearance at some point.
Cmon lads, full throttle from the start.
We certainly have a chance here. Underdogs yes but definitely a chance. Interesting line up, attacking again though not a side made for the lump up front! It is difficult to predict the starting 11 these days and Nuno keeps us on our toes. I thought Silva might get a start .... but no reason complaints.
Agree with pretty much everything above, need to be tight, no f’ups or surrendering of possession (too often) and make the most of our attacking threat up front. Should be entertaining.
I have Amazon on, the sync between mouth and words is not working (by quite a few seconds) which has happened before ... annoying. Won’t worry if we stick it in the back of the net.
Looks like we might be starting with a back 4 again. Great to hear fans singing live again. Early yellow card for Nico Williams for pulling Neto back. Free kick on the edge of their area. Neves puts it just over the bar on to top of the net
Under Pool attack - good cross by Robertson headed over by Mane. Adama fouled & good break results from free kick. Neves sets DP free but he mistimes his run & offside
Superb play down our left wing by Mane nearly converted by Firmino, then we break through Neto down their left, but cross very well taken by goalie. Great cross to Mane but good defending by Semedo. Free kick to Pool ten yds outside our area easily taken by Rui
Ridiculous shot by Donk from 30 yds out. Curtis Jones down injured but appears OK. Boly takes a shot from Salah straight in the face & stays on his feet!! Neto runs the length of pitch with ball then fouled by Matip on left edge of their area. Free kick goes for a corner Coady goes down in area after high kick by Mane & ref gives a penalty. VAR tells ref to see it & he changes his mind which is probably right.
Half topi me and we are 1 - 0 after a mistake by CC which was pounced on by Salah. Fairly even otherwise although we are missing a striker in the middle of the pitch. CC nearly earned a penalty but VAR correctly used to overrule it .
Definitely no penalty. I wonder how many Liverpool fans thought our goal was okay last season? I’ll be kind to Conor, perhaps he thought he was about to be clattered? As for his mistake, I’m still utterly bemused why he didn’t head it. Not a great moment for one of our most consistent players.
They are the better side, greater attacking intent, options, players but we have not been outclassed so all to play for in the second half. At times we’ve done very well, both Traore and Neto are giving Liverpool something to think about with Semedo playing well down the right, supporting Adama. The whole side are doing okay to be fair, so makes it doubly frustrating the circumstances surrounding their bloody goal!
Here we go again & no changes. Sane gets a shot away well taken by Rui. Game stopped due to techy problems in ref’s arm. Semedo puts a nice cross in but well taken by goalie. Trouble is that all our strike force are short so high crosses unlikely to be successful
Corner well earned by Adama floated over & palmed out by goalie for another corner CC has a chance but fluffs it. Liverpool break 3 on one and Wijnaldum scores from outside the area into top corner, giving Rui no chance. Great goal
Pool 2 Wolves 0
Game over.. coady having an absolute mare today from diving to the first goal. There isn't much you can do about the second pool goal other than to just admire the finishing as we haven't played that badly
That break come from another short corner didn’t it?
Superb goal, however 6’s and 7’s at the back. We’ve had a couple forays this half, mainly just before the goal but alas we’ve displayed a fair bit of huff and puff since half time.
Marcal has defended well tonight. Alexander-Arnold to replace Williamsat right back. Meanwhile Andy Robertson still causes great problems down our left side for a corner, which is headed in by Matip
Lkpool 3 Wolves 0
Thee minutes plus AT to play . Vitinha looking confident & competent. Joao booked for pulling back Mane. Free kick conceded outside our area which Robertson takes but eludes them all. Shot by Salah goes wide. 3 added minutes to play
Andy Robertson Man of the Match quite fairly
All over and we have been outclassed by a superb team conceding some good goals. Difficult for our young players under the circumstances without Raul but we need to regroup this week & come out fighting against Villa
Liverpool 4 Wolves 0
The best side whipped our behinds, especially in that second half. We chased shadows. We had moments, for sure, but nowhere near enough and class won the day. Certainly nothing like our efforts at Anfield previously.
Next up Villa on Saturday KO 12.30. Hope Nuno raises the lads after tonight.
Well I suppose you have to be careful what you wish for. Many of us have wanted the team to be more adventurous and the transition is going to be presenting results like this especially against teams like Liverpool. Although my stream was abysmal I think four goals flatters Liverpool, a rare Conor mistake and a midfield ping pong which fell against us cost us two goals.
A bad day at the office so we move on.
Perhaps we can use this performance to consign that awful away strip to the dustbin?
Talking of which, I hope Nuno does not ‘bin’ the more attacking formation based on that one performance. I’m sure that on a better day we’ll posed more problems, hopefully versus the Villa, just like v the Gunners.
The stream I was watching broke up after an hour and I gave up on it. I don't want to subscribe to "Amazon prime " whatever that is with football being taken away further from the person on the street with all the formats / channels/subscriptions and despite how well wolves have done in recent years I'm close to calling it a day.

I have Amazon Prime Lupine so I was able to watch the game in full, and take it from me Liverpool fully deserved their win, and rather than the scoreline flattering them it could have been more. Wijnaldum's goal was a fantastic solo effort, and the cross by Alexander-Arnold for the 4th was undefendable. Sadly we were outclassed, and the game went to show we are definitely a team in transition, trying to find a best formation and to bring on young players, but we have a long way to go before we will be as good as teams like Liverpool.
Thanks Chesh, that’s cheered me up for Monday morning.
I remain optimistic about this transition and with a group of hungry young players vying for a place in the first team I look forward to the future, just a matter of how far away the future is.
