Nuno's Press Conference

Looking Dour

Nuno Espirito Santo seldom seems happy to do press conferences. Perhaps he sees them as being pointless because he rarely actually gives answers that the press want to hear. However this week he appeared really quite morose.

Asked how the players are and whether there are any concerns he vaguely implied that there are some problems but gave no further details, saying only that they need to be assessed. As always he praises the upcoming opposition, always saying they are a good team with good players and a good manager, and stating that he is delighted to be a Manager seemed to be the only positive thing he had to say. Apart from saying that he hasn't been able to do much on the training ground this week, and confirming his view about sticking to three substitutes that was about it.

It will indeed be interesting to see whether he has in fact been able to come up with any new ideas during the two week break from Premiership matches, and whether they can be succesfully implemented against Southampton tomorrow.

It will also be very interesting to see whether Adama Traore will get a start in view of all the speculation surrounding is future at the club. Another issue fans will be wondering about will be his midfield line-up, especially in view of the very surprising fact that Moutinho, Neves and Dendoncker have yet to achieve a goal or an assist this season!! It's fair to say we need more goals to come from midfield.

We look forward to tomorrow night and see what changes will ensue.

Press conferences are a complete waste of time at every club, what can a manager say other than xyz are a good team, we hope to win etc etc. The fact other managers find different ways of saying the same rubbish is their concern, Nuno is quite right to give very short answers to silly dead end questions. What can anyone say to " Are you confident vs Southampton "? " No not confident at all or what he does basically saying against every side whether its the dog and duck or Sevilla that they " are a good team and we must be prepared". Hopefully journalists will stop asking these generic bs questions.

I can see press conferences after matches having a point with reaction to events after they have unfolded but ones before matches should be scrapped at every club- they only came in during the sky era unless it was cup finals previously

But isn’t the very banality of the Press Conference its point?
‘Will Coady play?’ ‘Wait and see’
“Where are Goals coming from?’ ‘’They must come from everywhere’

Without these mundane nonsenses we would wonder if anything is happening. Now we know it isn’t.

Meanwhile I find myself hunkered down in East Devon. My new girlfriend does not have cable and I find myself reduced to listening to matches, mostly, on Wolves TV. I installed a VPN to try and get on my old USA channels, which mostly show Premier League , without much joy. Oh well

Strange reply regarding the press conference Chicago - still it takes all sorts. (Sm54)

Regarding the football just go to hesgoals.com, normally reasonable streams on there

Thanks Angry
And I wasn’t really trying to be clever with the press conference stuff. I find that if the manager says nothing for ages it is a worry. And yet when there is a press conference he says almost nothing. So the choice comes down to being concerned or irritated 🙄

Without wishing to split hairs I think you will find the site is called Hesgoal.com rather than goals

Away from the press conference, just seen Nuno’s pre-match interview. He seems at a bit of a low ebb, especially over the Coady and Saiss situation.

Press conference have become a bland affair. Standard answers to saft questions. As a comparison, I’ve been watching the Big Match re-runs on ITV4 (Saturday morning), currently showing 1974/75. Brian Moore generally had a guest in and they all had a meaningful opinion from questions about the matches - Cyril Knowles, Big Mal, even Trevor Brooking. Unfortunately we lost 5-2 to West Ham on the latest episode I saw.
