Wolves' Portuguese links take another turn tonight when they face one of that country's biggest teams, Sporting Braga in the first round proper of this season's Europa League
Having beaten three teams to reach this stage of the Europa League, everyone at Wolves know that tonight's match will see a step up in the competition they face as Braga are one of the top teams in Portugal. Many of the Wolves players from that country know the club or have links with it. Nuno Espirito Santo will no doubt be keen for his team to put the uncertain start to this season's Premier League matches behind them as they strive to establish themselves in this competition. However, the question will be how many first team payers will start tonight in the knowledge that we have a very important game at Crystal Palace on Sunday to also consider.
This board will hopefully host a commentary on the game for those unable to follow it, and board members are encouraged to post their observations.
Very clever play by Jonny to start a break up left wing. Ball lost, but the colossus that is Boly wins it back. Ball fed out to MGW on left but he puts too much on it right across the area.
Doc comes in off right wing linking up well with Raul but defence eventually intervene.
Cutrone tries to do too much rather than getting a shot away. Five minutes of first half to play
I would agree with Ivybridge Wolf. Quite an entertaining game which Braga have played their part in too. Wolves have had chances and should definitely be leading by at least one goal. Cutrone and Raul are linking up well together in attack and with the midfield, and some chances have only gone because of a poor final pass.
Half time Wolves 0 SC Braga 0
Solid enough performance but hard to know how good braga actually are- being fourth best team in Portugal is about as impressive as finishing runner up in a beauty contest at a skegness bingo hall for the over 60s. Good decision from the ref regarding the potential penalty being given for Braga as the player clearly dived .. why the ref is wearing those knee length green socks I've no idea, he looks like a transvestite.
Cutrone looks a very good player but should have at least hit the target near the end of the half- in a situation like that he should do what Ian wright always used to state in treating the goal as a whole target instead of trying to place the shot. If it's hit hard enough and low enough it's almost certainly a goal.
A good first half which we probably edged. Defence looking better but still giving me palpitations periodically. Gibbs-White can be pleased with his contribution and the team shape looks better with him playing behind the front two. Cutrone and Raul are working their socks off so I hope they get some reward for their efforts tonight. Crowd is in good voice.
Should be a good second half.
Workmanlike but missing that killer touch. We played better than them and it really shows how important Boly is; like a rock. Chelsea might not have been such a rout if he had been able to play.
And MGW continues to be ‘promising ‘. Ie not quite there yet!
I've tried a different one this evening Angry and apart from a couple of frozen periods it's fine - always better to have an English commentary is possible, even if the specialist is female!!!!
Great play between Neves, MGW. & Cutrone but his final ball is put behind Raul from byline.
Raul misses the ball then Leander's shot saved by goalie's leg
Another long throw from Bennett sets up a shot from Neves which thuds into a defender. Play stopped when the ball hits the ref under the new rules. Braga goalkeeper has gone down holding the hamstring area of his right leg!
Boly puts the ball on Raul's head but he puts it straight at the keeper. Traore replaces Doc.
Bennett frustrating everyone - including me - with his persistent backward passing which always slows the game down,
Cutrone creates another chance in the area but his shot is wide. Boly gets a yellow but not sure why. Traore fouled, free kick met by Raul but goes wide.
Full time whistle goes. A poor start for awolves on their return to European football. Plenty of attempts on goal but lacking the accuracy of passing and shots taken. Braga took their best opportunity, but Wolves failed to take theirs.
Wolves 0 SC Braga 1
Fizzling out now. We’ve been perhaps a touch unlucky to be honest but the big issue tonight is the missing ability to score a goal.
FT last seconds Raul did well to get to a header but well wide.
I am very disappointed to be honest. A better display than recently but we can’t win at Molineux.
Crutone has some nice touches but I stated when he arrived he wasnt a natural goal scorer as his record suggests - we are powderpuff upfront and until that's addressed we won't go anywhere fast. The time wasting antics from Braga was a disgrace btw
Just got back very good game, they are a very good side but we had the chances and we realy should have won it, one mistake by Bennett who had a pretty good game along with Bolly and Johny defence much better, but our finishing very poor.
The home games against Watford and Southampton are starting to loom very large now. We really don't want to be entertaining the Vile in November looking for our first win of the season.
Hopefully you can pull this message and have a laugh when we finish in the top half and lift the Europa League next May.
But summat ain't right.
Powder puff up front and disorganised at the back leads only one way in this league and I don't care how early in the season it is.
If dendonkey had buried his absolute sitter we would have won the game - fine lines gentlemen. If we lose our next two then I will migrate into the something isnt right " camp but I doubt it
