I could understand Mick McCarthy playing Guedioura wide
against Everton to try and stop Leighton Baines, but he was marginalised today.
He attempted just 8 passes and gave Fulham’s left back Carlos Salcido far too
much space to play.
With Matt Jarvis as the only real outlet in the midfield, it
was noticeable how lopsided we were. Compare todays pattern of passing with
that of the Newcastle match, where Jarvis was on one flank with Adam
Hammill/Michael Kightly opposite him.
Despite not being the tallest, he won five of his nine
aerial battles, a far better record than Kevin Doyle managed in his last game
against Aston Villa.
Bloody hell - there must be a thousand 'clip boards' in the stands taking all this info down! No wonder we need a bigger stadium!
Don't think we know, yet, where or how to play Guadioura! Don't think yet he knows how good he will be!
Jarvis - mentioned elsewhere that we don't play wingers as wingers. Jarvis should look at Mike Summerbee . . . and learn.
Our other wingers should also follow suit. He's been given partial freedom to roam - and it's not got an effective conclusion.
That is what Fletcher is all about. The problem is not Fletcher - it is his service! His service is dictated by the style of play our squad is capable of under the pressure of our circumstances.
Fulham plated some nice footy - always support just behind and to the sides of the man pushing on with the ball. Soon as any resistance lay it off (frequently to the man behind) and reposition - this has been learnt though training and gave then a lot of possesion.
Stearman and Ward very clumsey today.
You ask if the passing game has gone - that's the passing game consisting of shortish passes delivered accurately to somewhere near your target so enabling him to recieve and comtrol the ball? For Wolves - yes, we much prefer the longish pass that consequently is not as accurate, more difficult to weight and so less likely to be controlled even if not intercepted first.
WLM - your doing something at night sdchool I here. How many managers are stats trained and is MM getting his C & G's in Ckalk Boards? I guess you will have neard of Edwards Deming, but how many more.
Everbody knows Guedioura is not a right winger except McCarthy it seems! And yes Hennessey has resorted to lumping it up front, same against Everton. Fulham pressed us relentlessly when we were in possession and Hen doesnt trust his defence not to lose possesion right in front of goal.
Fulham had done their homework and realised that we are not at all comfortable in possesion and usually lose it quickly when pressed. We have started looking very "Championship" in the last 2 games and I suspect that is right where we are headed.
oldngold I would say that we did look very "championship" yesterday. And there really did appear to be only one Premier League team on the pitch.
I also have to say that Mick look really frazzled in the post match intgerview.
You said earlier in another thread that we played well and another similar performance against Stoke was needed!
