Is this the end of Neill Collins???? Surely Mick McCarthy cannot pick him again, an Own Goal after what can only be 50 seconds and then to get sent off at the end.......
...........you couldn't make it up could you? Arguably the biggest game of the season and with less than a minute gone Neill "I make trapping a football look like controlling a helium balloon" Collins gives us the worst possible start. Granted I have not seen the goal yet, and so there could be a mistake from another player but then this is not the first time he has cost us goals. Yes he has scored valuable goals but surely surely the mistakes out weigh these? I think I am tasting a bit of humble pie?
I do not like to see a player get sent off, but his ban could be blessing in disguise. Maybe it might force the hand of Mick McCarthy/Jez Moxey to up the anti and put a higher bid in for Berra. I do not like to criticise players who wear a Wolves Shirt but enough is enough. Collins has to go. We need to start winning again urgently or pretty soon Reading could be out of site and Blues are now only 4 points behind. Let's see what the next couple of days bring in the Transfer Window and look forward to the next game. Hey, at least the Albion lost 5-0!
From the games i have seen on tv he is just not up to championship standard. Mick has got to realise his wolves carrer could end up in the toilet if he perserveers with him
I very much doubt it's the last we'll see of him at the club but think MM will now HAVE to up the search for a new CB with Collins being banned for 3 games now!

He will only be banned for 1 game as he was sent off for foul and abusive language which only carries a 1 game ban rather than 3. So knowing Mick he will be back in our team sooner rather than later-ie aainst Norwich next week.
He seems a great lad, full of heart BUT far too many howlers. Sadly and with regret I can only conclude that he is just not up to the required standard.
Whether this evening represents his end at Wolves - we'll see. I doubt it. But we must be honest that he is all too often like a rabbit in headlights when the ball or a decent centre forward comes his way.
His lack of pace is shocking, he loses concentration & gets caught out of position quite a lot - what you can't fault is his attitude. He's always given 100% & has chipped in with a couple of goals for good measure (which most posters have conveniently forgot).
I'm not looking through tinted glasses, nor am I a happy clapper or a Collins fans. The lads cocked up, hes big enough to kmnow that & so's Mick. Lets all leave it there & concentrate on the next match. Collins will be rested for some time, theres no doubt about that
Neil Collins is a squad player at best! Not good enough in a 2 man CB pairing. Reasonable cover, when we are facing an areial bombardment, NOT to face any striker running at him!
Why MM hasn't seen this is beyond my understanding!
I agree Ivybridge he does seem full of heart, but he just not good enough although he is normally ok in the air he is just too slow and positionally unaware.
Mick proably feels he can stick by him in the same way he did with S Ward, most people would agree that was a good choice.
Collins is a scapegoat for the fact that MM is a stubborn bast.ard who has his favourites, and the fact that we are not scoring as many goals as we were.
Would there have been all these Collins threads if we had won 3-1 ??
Yes he is definately being made a scapegoat. There is always a scapegoat at Wolves though.
I think most poeple have though Collins needed dropping regardless of the results recently.
I think there would still have been a Collins negative post even if we had have won, theres normally a couple of negative posts whatever the result on here.
I hate slagging off our own players and I never do it, but enough is enough the fella might have "heart, character, high work ethic, etc" but he just isnt up to Championship football. Anyone that watches him on a regular basis can see it (apart from the one that can put an end to it).
No one man makes a team but his continual mistakes are killing us, he served his purpose in his first season but now is time to get him out the side and get some quality in there alongside Stearman (I know its easier said than done). If the situation isnt addressed within this transfer window it will cost us dear.
Bradmore Wolf Yes he is definately being made a scapegoat. There is always a scapegoat at Wolves though.
Bradmore, you are right in that Wolves fans always do look for a scapegoat - but is Collins's case it is deserved. The last payer I thought was totally not good enough for Wolves was Leon Clarke two seasons ago.
No one is questioning that Collins has anything other than a first rate attitude and he nearly always has some part to play in how a game pans out. The problem is he really is just not good enough. The nickname Calamity Collins is well deserved. He can sometimes play fairly well for 88 minutes but there is NEARLY ALWAYS that 2 minutes in every game where he makes one or more massive mistakes. Sometimes we get away with it, usually we dont.
Yes he does pop up with a few goals in a season, but you have to remember his day job is as a central defender. You dont keep a@#$%&player in the centre of defence just because he pops up with a few goals. The defensive frailties caused by playing a weak link in central defence affects the confidence of the entire team.
It's still all to play for but McCarthy needs to realise fast that Collins is not the answer.
I'd actually forgotten about the 4 year contract he got in the summer. You got me all worked up again now! I was only just starting to calm down from last night!
A 2 year extension on an existing 2 year deal just made no sense on a player that was not in demand, who had had a bad season and clearly would never ever be good enough for the premiership just made no sense at the time and even less sense now. There was something very odd about that deal.
how about this then.....our two centre backs are to be either ...two richard stearmans .or two collins...
the first sounds great..the second...well need i say more
