Red Bull announced on Tuesday it has signed Adrian Newey. Newey will leave McLaren and join Red Bull Racing in February 2006. The assignment shows the world Red Bull is serious about being in Formula 1 and only have one goal: winning races.

www.f1racing.net has reported that Red Bull's F1 boss, Christian Horner, hopes the team will be winning races in 2008. "Hopefully we will be delivering race wins by 2008," he told BBC. "Almost all of David Coulthard's grand prix wins have come from Newey-made cars. David is delighted by the appointment."

In recent interviews DC has quoted that the teams objective in 2006 is to finish fourth in the contructors championship. This seems like a rather tall order for such a young team. Finishing a clear 7th in 2005 was a good result for the team, but to achieve 4th is I believe a tall order. Mclaren & Renault look set to have another strong season, and I think 3rd place will be contested by Ferrari & BAR. To finish 4th Red Bull would need to beat the weaker of those 2, as well as Williams and Toyota. Horner's vision for 2008 is to my mind a more realistic target.
