Mateschitz expects 4 -6 Podiums from Red Bull

Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz expects both Red Bull drivers to pick up two or three podiums during 2008. Despite acknowledging that Red Bull Racing won't reach its full potential during 2008, the Austrian is cautiously optimisitic about taking a step forward with the RB4.
Speaking to Kleine Zeitung, Dietrich Mateschitz confirmed that the team is still evolving, but results are begining to show "Two years ago, our car was a flop and, last year, we needed to work to the end of the season to get around the problems. In the last three races, however, we were clearly faster, and we have built on that."
Whilst wanting to remain cautious and avoid predictions, he couldn't resist a hint about his expectations. "Last year's car was totally new, and it is too early to talk about this year - but I have an outstanding feeling."
He went on to elaborate "We have significantly reduced the weight, and data from the windtunnel and computer [simulations] agree that we have made big steps. We might not be able to win this year, not under normal race conditions anyway, but both drivers should be good for two or three podiums respectively."

Thats a bit unfair Jezz. Toyota have a record of talking@#$%&and misleading people by running extra light in qually's. I don't beleive RBR have fallen to that level. With the tech staff in place and the continuing development of last years car what he say's is very probable.
Just my opinion but i love the way the new car is not radically different from last years. To me it says alot.

I don't see the relevance of that comment, amongst many of your other comments really.
RBR's tactics were bad last year,many races running too long in the first stint.
If we want to stay where we are or move up we need this kind of performance, another option is 7 and 8th in each race. If we drop back to No.s 14-15 next year again it will show we have not improved enough.

Why do you say that Schuey? They had one last year and could easily have had 3. I'd say a goal of 4-6 is quite reasonable.

Red Bull is different to other teams - we don't have any sponsors to impress. We can say anything we like about performance. There is no need to do a Toyota build up style. Dietrich has a good feeling - that's all. He already said this year is to close the gap to BMW - I think that's a realistic goal.

i would think that DM knows infinitely more about the car than all of us combined and then some. he would be making those comments based on what he knows and the advice etc of the team of experts he has built within the team.
from our[my] perspective i would not be so bold as to predict the likely fall out of the respective teams and their individual chances of making the podium throughout the season. that said i would state that there is every likelihood of cars of the red and silver liveried persuasion to be the best bets for regular visits.
DM's predictions may well be correct and i see no impediment to his logic outside the element of chance.

I tend to disagree, whatever DM thinks he knows about the car is irrelevant, because he doesn't know about everyone elses car. Added to that, as Webber says, you have to wait to get it out on the track to see how it performs - your wind tunnel or CFD software could be incorrectly calibrated making you think the car is better than it is.
I sincerely hope we get 4-6 podiums this year, I have a general "confidence level" about the car, and DMs comments don't move it.

for LH, if you read DM's actual comments he is simply expressing and 'opinion' based on what he knows from information vis-a-vis the parameters of last years car versus this years car; nothing more nothing less.
of course he knows that until the imminent acid test at melbourne no one can be sure just how good[or bad] the RB4 actually is but i still am of the opinion that he would be infinitely better informed than any of us here and better placed to make any predictions based on that knowledge. other posters have qualified his response in a like manner. however i do respect what you say as we all have 'opinions'

is he referring to formula one red bull team or just red bull in general? cause it seems like the rb4 is struggling, i mean why would we be testing the blood y rb3?
