Team Summary:
With the start of the second Friday practice session for the 2020 Italian
Grand Prix would see little action with five minutes passing before
Raikkonen came out followed by Grosjean and Magnussen. Raikkonen would set a
1m:22.959 on the medium but Albon on the hard would set a 1m:22.806. Stroll
on the medium was now quickest with a 1m:22.556 as both Alpha Tauri's came
out for their first runs. Albon would improve to set a 1m:22.324 to go
quickest only to see Gasly move ahead with a 1m:22.034 on the medium. Albon
was second followed by Grosjean, Raikkonen, Stroll, Giovinazzi, Kvyat, and
Magnussen on a mix of tyres. Both Williams drivers were out for their first
runs as the order changed quickly. Gasly was now fastest with a 1m:21.578 on
the medium followed now by Stroll and Ricciardo. Perez was fourth followed
by Raikkonen and Sainz. Sainz would improve to be second on the hard tyre
with Leclerc now third on the mediums. Leclerc's time would be deleted as he
went wide. he would drop to 13th behind team-mate Vettel. Ocon was now
second running on the mediums followed by Sainz and Verstappen,
On the medium tyre Hamilton was now fastest with a 1m:21.085 followed by
Gasly and Verstappen. The Williams drivers were currently 17th and 18th.
This would become 18th and 19th. Bottas was now second running on the hard
tyre. Hamilton would improve with a 1m:20.645. Verstappen was now third
using the medium tyre. But with an hour remaining the track would become
quite with only the Mercedes running. Gasly was fourth followed by Ocon,
Sainz, Stroll, Albon, Ricciardo, and Giovinazzi tenth. The track was now
empty as teams get ready for their next runs most likely on the soft tyre.
The first driver to return was Sainz on the soft tyre. Both Williams drivers
would come out for their soft tyre runs. Sainz would improve to be third
behind Bottas as the track started to get busy with forty eight minutes
remaining.
Giovinazzi was now in sixth behind Gasly while the Williams drivers did not
improve remaining in 18th and 19th. At the front Bottas had been quickest
with a 1m:20.454 but Hamilton would set a 1m:20.192 to be quickest.
Verstappen was third but a second behind Hamilton. Fourth was Sainz who had
run wide going into the gravel and pitted but as Gasly went third this would
become fifth. Kvyat was now sixth followed by Stroll, Leclerc, Perez and
Ocon. With twenty minutes remaining the track was now full barring the
McLaren of Norris which was having power issues. all the drivers were on
longer runs using all three tyre types. As Norris finally set a time the
Williams pair were now 19th and 20th. On the soft tyre Norris would move up
to third.
the session would come to an end with Hamilton remaining quickest from
Bottas, Norris, Gasly, Verstappen, Sainz, Kvyat, Stroll, Leclerc and Perez
tenth. The Williams drivers would finish in 19th and 20th and slowest but
with Nicholas leading team-mate George. It was a tough session with both
Williams driers a considerable margin behind the likes of the Haas and Alfa
Romeo teams. Based on the comments from George his car seemed to be a
handful. Hopefully the team will be able to address the issues he spoke of
in his communications with his engineer.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would follow his team-mate out as the track was now quite busy. He
was out on the hard tyre. A 1m:24.216 from Nicholas seeing him slowest.
Nicholas would improve with a 1m:23.507 to be 16th one place of his
team-mate. George would move ahead seeing Nicholas now 18th as Nicholas
pitted after a seven lap run, now 19th. Nicholas was also out for a soft
tyre run. He would set a 1m:23.425 to remain 19th. Nicholas would set a
1m:22.825 to move ahead of his team-mate to be 18th. Nicholas would pit
aftre a seven lap run currently 18th. Nicholas would return this time on the
hard tyre. With seven minutes remaining Nicholas had completed eleven laps
on the hard. He would complete seventeen laps as the session ended.
George Russell:
George would return to his car after Roy Nissany took his place in FP1. With
fifteen minutes completed George would come out for his first run on the
medium tyres. George would set a 1m:23.842 to be 15th. George would say that
there was going to be a shunt with all the slowing down by drivers as they
try to get slip streams. George would improve with a 1m:23.200 to be 16th
dropping to 17th. He would improve with a 1m:23.064 but did not change
positions. He would pit after a nine lap run currently in 18th. George had
been running flow viz on his rear wing like Nicholas in the first session.
George was out running on the soft tyre with fifty minutes remaining. George
would set a 1m:22.927 but would remain 18th. George would say that he had a
weird noise from his engine. He would pit after a four lap run currently
19th. For his next run George would return on the medium tyre. George would
tell his engineer that something did not feel right with the ride and that
his car does not feel right that it felt quite soft. George continued to lap
on his long run on the medium but would pit after a twelve lap run. He would
return on another set of soft tyres. George would say the the understeer was
worse in Turns nine and ten. With the end of the session George with Pit
after a nine lap run on the soft tyre. |
