George Russell return after having given his car to Roy Nissany. With the
start of the session Norris would be out first running on the medium tyre.
More drivers would start to take to the track with just the medium and hard
tyre been seen. Both Williams cars were running as Norris set a 1m:19.260 to
be quickest. Norris would improve with a 1m:19.221 followed by Magnussen,
Giovinazzi, and Raikkonen. faster times would start to be set with Leclerc
on the medium quickest with a 1m:19.050 followed by Bottas on the hard.
Norris was third followed by Vettel, Ricciardo, and Kvyat in sixth. The
Williams drivers were in 12th and 16th, dropping to 14th and 19th.
At the front it was now Hamilton quickest with a 1m:17.970 followed now by
Bottas, Ricciardo, Leclerc, Norris and Vettel sixth. Verstappen was now in
second ahead of Bottas. Vettel was now seventh followed by Albon, Kvyat, and
Magnussen tenth. With an hour remaining and after most drivers had completed
their first runs was Hamilton followed by Verstappen, Bottas, Ricciardo,
Leclerc, Norris, Vettel, Albon, Kvyat, and Magnussen tenth. With an hour
remaining the first driver to come out on the soft tyre would be Bottas.
Bottas would set a 1m:17.170 to go quickest over Hamilton. Both Williams
drivers were out on the soft tyre as Hamilton also started his soft tyre
run. he would go quickest with a 1m:16.883, while Grosjean went third. But
as more times were set Ricciardo would move up to third followed by Grosjean
and Leclerc.
Verstappen was now in third followed by Ricciardo, Grosjean, Leclerc, Sainz,
Perez, Ocon, and Gasly tenth. the Williams drivers after their soft tyre
runs were down in 19th and 20th but the margin to the fastest times had
improved slightly. The track was very busy as the session drew to a close.
The Williams drivers had been completing split tyre runs with the medium and
hard tyre been used. With the end of the session the top ten would remain
the same while for Williams it was a session that again saw them remain
slowest but this time it would be Nicholas ahead of George. For George his
session sounded so very frustrating as he struggled with the hard tyre. It
is only Friday so it now is a question of how much they can turn the FW43
around overnight.
George Russell:
George would take to the track for his first run of the weekend running on
the hard tyre. A 1m:22.827 from George's first lap. George would say that he
felt he had understeer everywhere, that the tyres were just sliding on the
surface with these tyres. George would drop to 17th and slowest of the times
set with a 1m:22.776. George would improve with a 1m:21.907 but remained
19th. George would say that his tyres were just not working at all. George
was now 20th and slowest. George would pit after a five lap run. George
would return for a soft tyre run. George would set a 1m:19.872 to be 16th.
This would become 19th as he pitted to return on another set of soft tyres.
But he would still remain slowest even with with a 1m:19.391. With just
under thirty minutes remaining George would return again on the hard tyre.
George would say that he was having problems with both axles, its like
driving on ice (running on the hard tyre). He would also tell his engineer
that he was having issues a certain corners. Certainly not sounding like a
positive session at all.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would join his team-mate out on the track except he was on the
medium tyre for his first run. Nicholas would set a 1m:20.711 to be sixth.
He would improve but was currently 12th with a 1m:20.147. This would become
14th as he continued his run on the medium tyre. But he would pit after a
eight lap run. Nicholas would also return on the soft tyre. He would set a
1m:19.155 to be 11th dropping to 17th. This would become 19th and he pitted.
With just under forty minutes remaining Nicholas would return again on the
soft tyre. This would be quite a long run on this tyre pitting after a nine
lap run. he would return for another run on the medium tyre. he would pit
after a seven lap run. He would end his session in his pit. |
