As we read in the Bath Chronicle that Andrew Brownsword has told his coaching staff to start looking to recruit eight new players for next season it is worth spending a few moments reflecting on the statistics of the players we know will be leaving Bath after the Parker Pen Cup Final against Wasps.

Tom Voyce
After a very disappointing start to the season in which he could not replicate previous form, Tom Voyce ended on a high note with many Bath supporters asking why such a potent finisher is being allowed to leave the Rec. If high flying Wasps think Voyce is worth adding to their squad then there must be something about him and given that we are not awash with flying wingers the coaching staff must have another reason for letting him go.

What more can be said about the ultimate club man? Shep is a player from the old school, where playing for "your team" is as important as any other part of rugby and was as comfortable playing alongside the likes of Chilcott, Dawe and Ubogu as he is alongside players from the current era. For those people who claim to know all about the dark secrets of front row play, Mallett is seen as a tough scrummager who has always put pressure on the opposition in the set piece. In recent seasons he has recovered from a series of injury setbacks and has appeared fitter than ever and taken over Victor's mantle of being the fans favourite prop.

Nathan Thomas
Nathan Thomas joined Bath in 1996 and has been a driving force in the back row for several years. Many supporters were surprised that he was chosen by his colleagues as the Bath Player of the Season because on the pitch he does not stand out as regular "man of the match" material - they must see something we don't! Thomas is strong but always appears to be a bit lumbering when moving around the pitch and his ball skills are somewhat limited when compared to the likes of Dan Lyle and Adam Vander. The Welsh players are under pressure to play in Wales and it was no surprise to see Thomas head off to Cardiff; he has probably developed himself as much as he can in a Bath shirt and this move has to be good for both player and club (Bath that is!).

Alessio Galasso
Galasso was described as one of the finest props in Europe when he joined Bath at the start of the season, well based on what we have seen this season they must have very few fine props on the continent! After starting in the early games he was soon relegated to a supporting role within the pack and never made any sort of impact. This signing was an expensive mistake for Bath and could be seen as an indicator of why the management were reluctant to spend even more money this season trying to make amends. With the proven abilities of Bell and Flatman joining our club next year we will not miss Galasso's talents in the front row.
