ERE is dead, long live... Come On My Lovers!

"Come on my luverrrrrs"

By Stuart Anderton
May 9 2012

After Glen decided to hang up his message board boots and retire the ERE brand back to Radstock, a new place for Bath fans to hang out on Sports Network was urgently needed. And here it is!

Welcome to Come On My Lovers.

Why the name? 20 years ago alongside the the shouts of "Every time, referee, every time" from the Flowerpots was a lone voice, I believe her name was Doris. She would call out "Come on my lovers" in a proper old Bath accent whenever here wa a break in play. Sadly she passed away several years ago.

For me, the name recalls those days when we were all members not season ticket holders, and everything was a bit more homespun, but also a bit more fun.

I hope the message board can also reflect that.

I'd like to take this chance to thank Glen for being really supportive of making this change. On the shoulders of giants....

Stuart

I knew Stuart would instantly sign up to run the new site.

" I am the referee of COML, and expect to be treated by you "the players" in the same way as a ref on the pitch when it comes to respecting decisions."

Hilarious (Sm22)

I suspect another Malco run endevour but let's see how the new site does. Once I wade through all the stickied posts and patronisingly laid out rules.

I for one am pretty hopeful of the new dawn, hopefully we'll coax some old names out of retirement and create a new, successful Bath rugby forum.

fantastic news

i quite like the name, although you have to understand a little of west country speech to "get it"

talking of which, although born and bred in Kent, my time at Uni in Bath and subsequently as a STH always had me believing that the Bath term would be "my love" (can't type in an accent, but hopefully you can imagine it!), whereas it was the Bristol term that would be "my lover"

is this not so? or is this going way way back in to our dim and yokelly past?

i distinctly recall being served in shops (usually by a slightly older generation) and being addressed as "my love", but never "my lover"...although whether i changed in my head what i heard to conform to what i thought who knows?

anyway, great news about COML and would be interested if anyone can shed light on the terminology thing

cheers

Nick

Can't help but think that with the moniker 'Come on my Lovers' there'll be a few visitors disappointed to find it's a rugby site...!

Do we really need 6 stickies? Just merge Welcome, Rules and Off topic threads into 1. Why is all academy chat limited to one single topic?

We do for the minute, want to go a week or so to make sure those who don't visit every day have seen the messages.

I think Bri is hoping to have a thread like Which Tyler's where the injuries etc go in one place. See how it goes. It's not "limited", talk about Academy stuff as much as you like anywhere.

Can you leave off all the adverts that made ERE a bit of a pain sometimes (Sorry, Glen)

I seem to remember a lady calling out 'C'mon Bath' at every stoppage a few years ago she used to wear lots of badges on her hat I think?

Every time I check back the colour scheme has changed or the sizing or positioning of the elements is different.

I liked version #27 best of all - can you wind it back to that look please?

The site editors do not have any control over adverts. That is the province of SN and why the service is free!

Ha! Fiddling with the colours is a PITA, you have to change about 20 numerical values and save it, and then of you don like it there's no undo!

I want to get the avatars working but can't find a our schem which doesn't look hideous when I turn them on.

Stuart

I believe "Doris" was actually Molly - so I was led to belive in the early 80s.

I think she may be referrrd to in "Before The Lemons".

Thanks for taking this on!!!!

BTW - your rules seem pretty reasonable to me. Maybe we should view this as a club - if you do not like the rules, you do not have to be a member. Or - for those who like the pub analogy - if the Landlord rules your behaviour unacceptable, that is his prerogative.

Some of the layouts have them on the left, and people would probably use them instead of big signatures so it could be more compact.

But I can't find one which works right, so it's a moot point.

Hi Stu best of luck with this one.
Im sorry I can only give you half a story about this one but the lady in question lived Bath rugby.I would somtimes talk to her as we walked back up the hill after the game. She had never married but her father was sports mad and it rubbed off.She played sport to a high level and represented England at hockey. When she could not play any more she watched Bath every home game until she died of cancer about ten years ago.She was a perminant fixture at home games and I watched my first game in the 73 to 74 season.Im just annoyed I never thought to ask her what her name was !!!

I'm perfectly happy to have my 2 back into 1 sticky too if that's easier; though it DOES make sense to have 1 thread for injuries and another for player movements and rumours
