You've probably all heard about Work/Life balance as something considered trendy PC rubbish by some and an important aspect of ones working life by others but have you heard about Rugby/Life balance? No, and neither had I until last night.
For more years than I care to remember I have either watched Bath Rugby play live home and away, on TV or listened to the radio/internet but last night I decided to give it a break. It helped that the game was in far off lands and robust internet coverage was being questioned prior to the game. Instead Mrs Ed and I met up with friends for a meal and a good time was had by all. Not once did I think about the rugby and I even stopped myself from checking the score on my return home.
In fact the first time I knew that we had won was early Saturday morning when Radio Five Live read out a list of winning teams. However I didn't know the score or who had done what but come breakfast time I was soon scrambling on to the internet to slurp in as many details as I could.
So what's the point of me telling all of you this? Quite simply if someone who has spent many years following Bath Rugby and written about the club since 1991 can so easily turn off (albeit it for one match) imagine how easily less committed supporters may react should Bath Rugby be forced out of the city. How many of those with a fringe interest who are so important to keeping up the supporter numbers will travel the extra miles to a ground with no Blue, Black and White heart and soul to watch their team? Of course the fanatically loyal will travel to a new home but the others may find excuses every now and then not to go to the games and this is not good for the development of our club.
It is essential that we all support the club's efforts to stay on the Rec otherwise we could see the end of Bath Rugby as we know it. If you haven't completed your questionnaire please do so now. Monday is the deadline!
