Saracens' first opponents in this season's Heineken Cup, Biarritz Olympique, got back to winning ways at the weekend with a 43-5 demolition of Brive, the team who ended Sarries hopes in last season's European Challenge Cup. The Basques scored six tries in the top 14 Round 4 match, one each from Thierry Dusautoir, flanker Imanol Harinordoquy, winger Philippe Bidabé, prop Petru Balan and hooker Olivier Noirot plus a penalty try with scrum half Julien Dupuy booting five conversions and two penalties.

BO now stand second in the Top 14 with a won 3 - lost 1 record, on 15 points, 4 behind still unbeaten leaders Toulouse.

Ulster finally kicked off their Celtic League season with a win at Cardiff Arms Park against the Blues 25-22 with outside half David Humphreys helping himself to 20 points.

In Italy, Benetton Treviso played their first home game of the season in Round 2 of the Super 10 and took their time in demolishing newly-promoted Veneziamestre 57-7. 52 of Benetton's total came after half time and they now sit on top of the table with a maximum 10 points, ahead of Viadana on points difference.

This weekend sees Ulster host Edinburgh on Friday night in Ravenhill's first Celtic League match of the season; Benetton travel to Rovigo in Super 10 Round 3 on Saturday afternoon and Biarritz host the side to whom they lost in Heineken Cup semi-finals but gained revenge by beating them in the French Championship final; Stade Francais.
