Former ACT Brumbies, Leicester Tigers and Australia centre Rod Kafer has joined Saracens as player coach. Kafer, who won the Super 12 title with the Brumbies in 1999, will be re-united with his former boss and new Sarries CEO Mark Sinderberry who spent seven years at the helm in Canberra. The 31-year-old with 12 Australian caps joins a Saracens back division that will be missing the retiring Tim Horan and several others who will be representing their respective countries at this autumn's World cup. But one player that should be alongside Dave, as he was known at Leicester, will be former Tigers team-mate Andy Goode.

Kafer commented on the move "I know a fair bit about the history and the players at the club, so not too much is new to me there. With Saracens I have the opportunity to try something new and different. There's a squad with much potential, and I'll be seeing what we can do to help develop that potential."

Sinderberry said "We're very pleased to be able to announce that Rod has signed for Saracens. During the Rugby World Cup we will have several players away and he will be very useful to us and provide excellent leadership in this period. In the second half of the year he will work with the coaching team, and we’re sure his insights to the game will be very valuable to us."
