END OFSEASON POLL 2013-14 Part 4

you know who

The final part of last season’s poll. Just a warning to any visiting Sinners, this section does contain a reference to last season’s Premiership Final but please leave us to our own PRIVATE grief!

  1. BEST SARRIES MOMENT OF THE SEASON

There were a couple of dissenting voices. 83,000 at Wembley was one suggestion, beating Ulster at Ravenhill and the whole Ulster experience were others. There was support for the second half of the Premiership win over Leicester but most of the support was for that magical win over Clermont at Twickenham. Different people liked different aspects – Burgers 22 tackles, knowing we had reached the Heineken final, the whole day, the sublime quality of the rugby but whatever pleased you most, your best Sarries moment of the season was SEMI FINAL VICTORY OVER CLERMONT

  2. WORST SARRIES MOMENT OF THE SEASO

A couple of people voted for the Heineken Final and being outclassed by Toulon but amost everyone else went for the Premiership Final. Again there were lots of different aspects which came up. The name “Graham Hughes” was mentioned a few times. But the worst Sarries Moment of the season really was a moment. The winner (if that’s the right word!) is THE FINAL MINUTE OF EXTRA TIME IN THE PREMIERSHIP FINAL WAITING FOR THE AWARD OF THE “TRY”.

  3. FUNNIEST MOMENT OF THE SEASON

So now for something completely different. There was a couple of mentions for Sarrie and one for any interview with Nick “Honey Badger” Cummins but nearly all of you went for the BARNES TACKLE ON BRITS

(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtWVyoX0FsA if you haven’t seen it)

  4. BEST REFEREE (2013 Greg Garner)

Good to see a few new names in this one, especially some of our younger officials such as Luke Pearce and Matt Carley who were nominated by several of you. There was also support for Jerome Garces (presumably after Ulster) but once again your choice of Best Referee was that Pride of Wales NIGEL OWENS

  5. WORST REFEREE (2013 Alain Rolland)

Too many names here considering one might have expected a certain official to be a shoe-in. Alain Rolland got more nominations in his final season. Several of you chose the pedantic Tim Wigglesworth. Andrew Small still irritates you and Leighton Hodges wasn’t popular but there could only be one winner. With or without his side-kick, Graham Hughes, the winner is J P DOYLE

  6. BEST MEDIA PERFROMANCE BY A RUGBY CELEBRITY (2013 Large & Will Greenwood)

This one was wide open! Lots of support for BT’s coverage of the Premiership and their commentators including Ben Kay & Austin Healey and the Durden-Smith/Flatman Partnership. Brian Moore was popular for once as was James Haskell and the veteran Ian Robertson. Matt Stevens appearance on Rugby tonight was praised as was Phil Kearns on the Sky coverage of Australian Rugby. But once again the winner is the one and only WILL GREENWOOD

  7. WORST MEDIA PERFORMANCE BY A RUGBY CELEBRITY (2013 Fatboy & Pieman)

I don’t think this award has gone to anyone other than the current holders for as long as I can remember (?ever?). And this year is no different. There were disparaging remarks about Guspratt and Austin Healey along with any Sky coverage of the Heineken Cup, Mark Durden Smith and Eddie Butler. But the only competition was between Stuart “Fatboy” Barnes and Dewi “Pieman” Morris and this year Fatboy won it on his own. So the winner is STUART BARNES

  8. THE MICHAEL GENTLEMAN AWARD (SAMUI-MAN) CONTRIBUTION TO THE SARACENS.COM MESSAGE BOARD (2013 Saracens for Life)

Lots of suggestions here. You remembered Jimboban and his unfortunate adventures on the way to Cardiff. You have enjoyed contributions from TPR’s Headmistress, Waldo, Shhh, Wolfpack, Convex Hull, King Zak, “anyone prepared to have their point challenged without getting upset about it” and “other fans eating humble pie”. However I am honoured and embarrassed at being chosen, particularly as I remember a very kind post by Samuiman following one of the earliest reports I ever wrote saying how much he enjoyed it and how it made him feel like he was there. In true Oscar-speech mode, I would like to thank Neville, Innings, King Zak, J O’G, Behind the Bench, Gryff, Chingy & Matty Sarrie for writing match reports last season. I hope they will volunteer again this year along with anyone else who would like to have a go.

So that's it. Another season dead an buried and definitely time to put the past behind us and look forward to 2014-15.

Speaking of which - please volunteer for some match reports. The reporter's list is up and waiting to be filled by volunteers - previews, match-reports or both are greatly appreciated. And it starts with a friendly against London Scottish tomorrow night so ROLL UP, ROLL UP!

DG - I've done every Double Header match report since they started. So I don't want to break with tradition, so please put me down for that
