World Club Championship Cancelled

Yet again the proposed clash between the Super 12 Champions - this year the Canterbury Crusaders and the European Champions will fail to materialise. The proposed date of Novemeber 30th clashed with both a Tigers - Saints league match and the "Battle of the Hemispheres" set to take place in Cardiff. The latter being the reason why the New Zealand Rugby Union have refused to sanction the club game.

Steve Tew the NZRFU Chief Executive sates: "It will not happen. We like the idea of a world professional championship decider but there are a number of issues which need to be resolved before it can take place. I hope a long-term solution can be agreed which would make this an annual fixture."

So for the third year running the match looks set to be abandoned. It seems that there is not space in the calendar for such an event at the moment.
