Scott Benton

 

Scotty Benton joined Tykes in 1999, and has become a key player described on the Leeds Tykes official website as "one of the main driving forces behind the Tykes performances the following season when he was an ever present for the promotion winning season."

His presence was just as noticeable during the Tykes first premiership season. Timofe sums up the qualities Benton brings to the Tykes:

"I voted him player of the season. As I said at the time: even if he didn't have excellent playing skills (which clearly he does), then for his commitment and devotion to the team and the fans....With Shelley he is the heart of the team - always driving forward and enthusiastic to win the game." 

Scott Benton is not just a good player but also one who is clearly committed to the team, and it is this combination which the fans love so much.

"A gritty determined individual, who harasses the opponents when not in possession around the scrum forcing them into mistakes. Generally quick hands and gets on the game, quite versatile can take on opponents kick through or simply pass quickly. Scotty has all the credentials for an England player, now give him a chance." 15UP

"For me its the never say die, in yer face attitude he brings to the team - sums up what's good about the Tykes. Very accurate pass, has a knack of finding gaps too. Also, he appears to be very appreciative of support from the South Stand." Richie the Rhino

"..after the Gloucester game: I was chatting to (the Gloucester) fans.... And they did 'We're not worthy' to HIM during the game. That tells you how good he is, and how good he will be! " Bran

The Gloucester fans also have fond memories of Benton:

“We used to call him the meercat. Great bloke. Signed shirt from the tour to hell in the Queen's Head. Well remember him joining us in the Gordon Terrace for the C&G Cup..., and all the traveling Shed started singing 'There's only one Scotty Benton' “ - Horse

Adam recalls Benton's on field attitude “...dunno if he still does it, but he always used to "talk" to the opposition hooker during the throw in. seemed to cause upset sometimes.”

Scott Benton - great scrum-half, fan's favourite and Bradford Bull's fan. The Gloucester fans are right:

"There's only one Scotty Benton!"
