Yorkshire Carnegie will make the short trip down the A1 tomorrow, for what in reality, is the second half of the Championship play off semi-final. And when it is put in that context, the team and the fans, have to believe the 13 point advantage the Knights take into the game can be overcome. Many a side has turned a game around after the interval, and that in 40 minutes, not the 80 we have tomorrow.
To do that however, Carnegie will have to play the best they have done all season, against rivals who will be in no mood to miss out on a place in the final. Last week Donny were deserving winners, but as is often the case, Yorkshire gave them a helping hand.
To win tomorrow, the visitors’ discipline has to improve, both with, and without the ball. Last week, we gave away penalties for crossing and closing the line, things we can control, and should. We need to be aware of even giving the ref the opportunity to penalise us at scrum time as well. With the ball in hand, Carnegie need to treasure it, and take a bit more care when in possession.
So it’s a big task, but not impossible. A couple of early penalties would bring us within one score of levelling matters, and put a bit of pressure on the Knights. We have to attack from the kick off, while staying patient when on attack, go through phases, and not throw speculative passes. Not easy in a game of this importance I know, but it is how Carnegie have to play to have a chance of progressing.
IF we can do all of these things, I think we will win tomorrow. Whether we can win by 14 points, I’m hopeful, but not so sure.
And finally, (as the Two Ronnies would say), I hope the fans of both sides enter into the spirit of the occasion, and make it a memorable afternoon, regardless of who wins.

When we have passed the ball accurately at speed through the forwards and the backs, we have been very difficult to defend against this season, including against Donny in the last quarter last week as well as the last quarter at CP earlier in the season.
If we don't play that way tomorrow from the start, we're not ready for the final, never mind the Premiership.
I think we'll know in the first quarter whether YC can win the game tomorrow - the last quarter is too late. Let's not lose for the want of trying.
