Nottingham preview

This weekend sees the last round of Championship fixtures before the league breaks for the first set of B and I cup games. As far as I am concerned the break cannot come soon enough. Both Nottingham and Yorkshire have won 2 of their opening 4 games, and it is only points difference that sets our favourites above this weeks’ hosts in the bottom half of the league table.
Yorkshire, sorry from now on it’s Leeds, have disappointed their fans with their two home displays, and their cause has not been helped by an injury list that would extend hospital waiting times even more of they had to use the NHS. The break for the B and I cup gives the wounded a bit more time to regain fitness, and at the moment Leeds’ resources look very thin on the ground.
Forwards win matches, but the Leeds pack has struggled to gain any ascendancy so far this season. Harris and Tideswell looked the business last week when they came on, and they should start this weekend. If any of Beck, Myerscough or Smith are fit, then better still. The youngsters have done very well, but experience is called for to steady the ship.
For me, the halves have looked very ordinary, and the threequarters have looked lacking in both pace and the skill required to break down the opposition. Hopefully this week, Dave Doherty, and Rob Vickerman will return, along with Jonah Holmes, and if they do, the backs will suddenly be much more threatening.
There is still a long way to go before we get to the play offs, but if Leeds don’t start winning on a regular basis soon, they will be cast adrift from those at the top, and it will be a long hard season. I believe there is enough talent in this Leeds squad to get a top 4 finish, but they need to deliver the goods now, and Sunday would be a good start.
I hope those who travel to support the team have a safe journey, and are celebrating come 3.00 on Sunday afternoon. My heart says a narrow Leeds win, but my head says think again. Good luck Leeds.

If I had all the money I've spent on drink ..... I'd spend it on drink.
I wish I could be more optimistic but this is a long long way from the team I was supporting so enthusiastically last year.

Agree totally...feel a bit flat after last week.But'high hopes'! Team looks more solid. But Notts played well for 60 mind against Worcester...think they were down to 14 after that? Must be inspired by our tactics!
When we beat Welsh at Headingly last Spring we looked the real deal. We had the bones of a Premiership side????????
As you say Hax we need to get back in the saddle bl**dy quick...not just take this game by the 'scruff of the neck' but assert ourselves dominantly up front with a performance that will leave this Division something to ponder. Backs look better

Notts certainly wont see much to fear from Donny game so hope all the changes make a big impact.
Notice Haag is scouting in New Zealand for impact Centre...maybe GM should be thinking of ways to bolster the Leeds outfit...needs to be proactive as coach not just monitor the situation...or it will be too bl**dy late!!
He is certainly a good talker..keeping judgement in reserve..but lets see him get really stuck in ( esp. during the B&I Season )to shaping a more mature and experienced team that will beat Worcester, Bristol, Scottish and Roth. Try out some of the young-uns by all means. BUT....... that in itself will not 'bridge the gap at the top end??!
I notice Worcester are charitably lending George Porter to Notts...seems all wrong within the same Division when there are obvious vested interests at stake?
Shame no coach on or would have gone...may still give it a go??

Know that Loz was much loved on this board but Hughes was the first pick at 10 last year when we played some of the best rugby seen in a very long time. IMHO a much underrated player who will be hard act to follow......
Leonard may still be finding his feet but does not yet look as effective as Hughes was.

just a timing issue, I prefer to wait until our pack is back to something like full strength and Ming's tactics are communicated and understood, before passing judgement.
