After weeks of speculation Leeds Carnegie have named the successor to Neil Back as head coach. The appointee is 38 year old Diccon Edwards, currently coaching with the national U20's and who, until 12 months ago, was manager of the Leeds Academy. Comparisons are therefore inevitable with Stuart Lancaster who also took the road to HQ after his time at Leeds.
Diccon joined Leeds as a player in 1996 from Castleford RL club. Previous to that he played union for Selby, Wakefield, Leicester and Newport. Despite the handicap of being a Londoner Diccon was educated at Pocklington school in East Yorkshire where he gained England honours at U16 and U18 level.
He joined Castleford rugby league club at a time when it still paid more than union. He made fifteen appearances and scored one try for Cas. During his time at Wheldon Road he was capped for Wales RL , qualifying through a Welsh grandparent. Diccon retired through injury and became an RU Development Officer. He took over as manager of the Leeds Academy when Stuart Lancaster was promoted in 2006 and it was his U19's side that won the Yorkshire Cup in 2009. He was involved in coaching the England U20's to the Grand Slam last season.
He certainly ticks many of the boxes - a strong Leeds background, good coaching experience and within our budget. No doubt he will give the job his all and I am sure he will get us back to the Premiership. That is his first challenge. His next one will be to keep us there.
Rocky's Dad I understand from Rocky’s Mum that a letter from the club has just arrived at home relaying the news by post.
Must have been sent yesterday, is this a sign of what is to come, is marketing department going to be on the ball for next season.
Same here - but why post me a ST form when I've already done one?
And while I am at it - they ain't taking the money for another month. I had it at the end of April. I've been on the mother of all spending sprees since.
Nice to see that Mr Moderator is prepared for all eventualities. I wrote a piece about 2 top quality 10s including Hodgson joining Leeds at the start of the last 2 seasons and never got to post either on the board or in the press. Sad times eh.
