Bristol Rovers are closing in on Cardiff City midfielder Joel Colwill on loan. Colwill, 20, has been impressing during his current loan spell at Cheltenham Town in League Two, where he has scored nine goals and provided three assists in 28 appearances.

Cardiff City manager Omer Riza has acknowledged the interest from several League One clubs, including Bristol Rovers and Exeter City, in securing Colwill's services for the remainder of the season. Riza believes moving to a higher division would benefit Colwill's development, stating that experiencing different leagues can help players grow by pushing them out of their comfort zones.

Despite Bristol Rovers recently signing midfielder Romaine Sawyers, Rovers are keen to add more to their ranks in the January transfer window. It's believed a deal could be concluded early next week for the young midfielder. although there is still interest from one other League One club.
