The 21-year-old has signed a three-year deal with an option of an extra year in the club’s favour. 

The forward progressed through the academies of Chelsea and Arsenal before joining Leicester City. 

At the end of the 2022-23 season, he was named Academy player of the season for his performance in the U18 Premier League. 

On August 2024, Richards joined Exeter City on a season-long loan. He made six League One appearances, scoring one goal. 

Head coach Daniel Stendel told the club website: "We are very happy to bring Amani to Barnsley. 

"He is a player with a lot of energy, speed and potential. He likes to play forward, attack defenders and work hard for the team, which are qualities we value highly. 

"Despite his young age, he has already experienced different environments at some excellent clubs and has shown that he can adapt and continue improving. 

"We believe Barnsley is the right place for him to take the next step in his career, and we are excited to start working with him." 

Richards added: "After speaking with the gaffer, I felt it was a great opportunity. I love the playing style he's trying to build and I feel like it fits the way that I play as well. I'm just happy to be here, excited to see what I can do, and help the team as much as possible."
