The second part of the "blog" for the cross US trip taken by two COYSDC posters, Jon in (was) Maine or (to be) Alaska, and his brother, Former Hollywood Saint. Day two is from near Buffalo, NY, to just north of Chicago.
Day 2.
Despite our "interesting" sleeping arrangements, both FHS and I were able to get a semi-decent night of sleep. We were both up and continuing on the I-90 by 7:30am, and in hardly any time at all were passing through Buffalo. Plenty of signs for Niagara Falls, but none proclaiming "Home of the Wings". You'd have thought they'd have been proud of it... Anyway, leaving Buffalo we turned south to drive round Lake Erie. No signs of it yet,but I thought I'd explain why we went south!

Entering Pennsylvania
After a couple of hours on the road, we finally left NY, and entered Pennsylvania. We were only in NH for about 15 miles, and PA came second for the shortest distance spent in the state. We crossed the top, where it divides NY and Ohio, and it's only about 45 miles wide. Still, it's another state on the list.

Moving on to Ohio
Talking of Ohio, we were quickly in there, and the I-90takes you right through the heart of down town Cleveland, and along the shores of Lake Erie. Sights off the highway (that we didn't go to) include the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the home grounds of the Cleveland Indians (baseball)and Cavaliers (basketball). Right next to the main road, so both grounds have easy access, and I bet they didn't have issues about expanding the grounds! One other notable place that the I-90 takes you near is Dayton, Ohio. I'm not expecting many people to recognise the name, but I had to make at least one reference to the that other oval ball game, American Football. The NFL Hall of Fame is in Dayton.

State number 7 - Indiana

Our quickest state so far!
Leaving Ohio in our wake, we passed through Indiana for our seventh state. Not too much of excitement there, other than a little detour we made. The I-90 passes pretty much along the border of Michigan, so it seemed like a waste to not pull off the main road and find the border. Along with state number 8, we now have a new leader for the least time spent in a state. We pulled off in a car park just before the sign, got the photo, walked in to the state and walked out. Time spent in MI - around 15 seconds!
Carrying on, we finally hit our final state of the day,Illinois. This "border" crossing is accompanied by a time zone change too -we're now in the Central Time Zone, instead of Eastern. The extra hour of sleepwill be more than welcomed! We're greeted by views of the Sears Tower, the tallest building in the US now. We're also greeted by the Chicago rush-hour traffic, which is not as pleasant.

No Illinois state sign, but Bernie makes his first appearance!
Finally though, we're able to battle our way through roads that occasionally get to 6 lanes, all of which are hardly moving. There's still about half an hour of driving left, all of which went pretty uneventfully, and we arrive at our Aunt's place. It's going to be our final real bed for several nights, so we make the most of the facilities available and grab a decent night's sleep! Tomorrow's going to be a long day...
Distance travelled: 1156 miles.
States visited: 9 - ME, NH, MA, NY, Pennsylvania (PA), Ohio(OH), Indiana (IN), Michigan (MI), Illinois (IL)
