Having appeared over 40 times for Queensland, Williams was their top try scorer in the 2001 Super 12 campaign and in the 1998 season he played alongside Quins new boy Andre Vos, as well as ex-Quins Garrick Morgan and David Wilson.
As fullback for the Queensland Presidents XV Williams appeared in the midweek game against the British & Irish Lions in Townsville in 2001 which resulted in a Lions win with a final score of 6-83 - this is the game where the Lions scored thirteen tries including five from Robinson and three from Henderson, Will Greenwood also played but didn't get on the scoresheet. Williams was due to play for Queensland against the Lions again the following Saturday, after fullback Chris Latham was ruled out after a shoulder injury, but he was dropped from the team after he was found returning out from a nightclub with teammate Shane Drahm (who will be playing for Bristol next season) at 5am the morning after the game. They would have got away with it had they not bumped into their coach Mark McBain who was on his way to the airport to catch a dawn flight out of Townsville - D'OH! If he carries on the same lifestyle when he joins Quins he might have the problem of bumping into Scotty or Copsey dancing and drinking in the bar rather than being caught by the management after an early start.
He has been said by some to be the Australian equivalent of David Beckham, not because of his dodgy hair dos or massive pay packet but because of his relationship with his partner Tania - she is a TV presenter, model and actress - whether or not she can sing we don't know, but she must be better than Posh Spice!
In 2000 he was in New Zealand as were the Australian cricket team and in an impromptu session he went in to face McGrath and Brett Lee shrouded from head to foot in protective padding. Urged on by Steve Waugh, Brett Lee gave Williams a bouncer which he only just managed to glove away from his face as he fell flat on his back - let's hope his Quins rugby career is more dignified!
