Plymouth Albion made the most of their pace out wide to secure their 24 5 win. Quins had made a very strong start to the game, receiving the kick-off and quickly working their way into Plymouths half. The first twenty minutes saw Harlequins dominate possession, but fail to turn this pressure into points.
Plymouth were finally able to kick their way into a better position, and from here they began to lift their game. The visitors dominated the set-pieces but with Plymouths strong challenges at the breakdowns, Quins were unable to create a platform to work off. Plymouth then capitalised on their possession and used their speed in the backs to create the overlap needed to score out wide.
The second half saw a similar state of play with Quins controlling the scrums and lineouts, but with Plymouth defending well against Harlequins strike runners and stealing the ball back in the rucks. Once again Plymouth were able to run around the visitors defensive line for their second try.
Quins lifted their heads and began to attack back down the pitch, but conceded a penalty on the halfway line. When Plymouth chased up their kick, shouting in what the referee deemed to be an unladylike manner, the penalty was then awarded to Quins. Once in Plymouths twenty-two, it was the penetrating runs of second row, Helen Cushion, and number 8, Vicky Gallagher, that carried the ball tantalisingly close to the try line. Winger, Jane Wilson, was ready in close support to score the try.
Although Quins continued to challenge well for the remaining twenty minutes, Plymouth were to score twice more and keep Harlequins from creating any opportunities from the possession they had. Although unable to gain any bonus points from the afternoon, Harlequins have learnt some hard lessons from a hard game, and had the long return journey to contemplate them.
