Quins’ new scrum half Billy Fulton

Billy Fulton
By The Prof March 1 2003
With the tragic loss of Nick Duncombe and the team misfiring recently Evs and Scotty have been busy on the transfer market, the latest signing is the New Zealander Billy Fulton.
Name: Andrew 'Billy' Fulton
Position: Scrum Half
Date of Birth: 22nd April 1977
Place of Birth: Auckland, New Zealand
Height: 5' 9" (1.75 m)
Weight: 190 lbs (86.18kg)
Education: Westlake Boys High School
Previous Clubs: Hornby, North Harbour, Canterbury, Otago Highlanders, Wellington
Provincial debut: North Harbour v Northland in 1997
Super 12 Debut: Highlanders v Blues in 1997
Honours: NZ Under 19 (1996)

The 25 year old New Zealander has played more than 50 first class matches since making his provincial debut for North Harbour against Northland in 1997. He has played both in the NPC and in the Super 12, the majority of the games he has taken part in recently were as a replacement rather than in the starting line up but his move to Quins should see him starting a number of games. The fact that he is EU qualified means Quins can still select from the whole squad with only Ace and Big Bill being 'foreign players'.

He had an injury problem about 10 months ago when he tore a lateral knee ligament away from the bone but the operation to repair the damage was a complete success.

In November 2002 Fulton signed a two year deal with Wellington.

He is also a former national junior surf boat champion.
