This Saturday it looks like we will be putting a youngster in the first team for his first appearance, this new player is Andrew Reay and he should be partnering Rob Jewell who is usually used on the wing.
Reay was born on April Fools’ Day 1983 in Hillingdon, Middlesex and came up through Quins’ youth policy which seems to be producing some fine young players at the moment with the likes of prop Sam Walton, back row Darryl Griffin, full back Tom Williams and wings Max Wilcox and Ugo Monye (who had his first appearance for the 1st XV in the Premiership as a late replacement against Wasps).
He has received international honours for England at U19 level appearing in the same team as our own Chris Bell and Garvey from Gloucester. He was recently called up into the South of England U21s squad that played the West of France U21s to replace unlucky team mate Tom Allan.
Andrew Reay is an Associate Professional and he has put in a number of fine performances for the U21s and the 2nd XV – getting a number of Man Of The Match awards. He style is very much like the player he is replacing, Nick Greenstock, he runs good attacking lines and is a fierce tackler.
Let’s hope he can be a part of Quins’ first away win in the league for a very, very long time.
