With many players still recovering from injuries, Quins took to the home field with a combination of players from the 1st XV , Wanderers and Pacific Island team.
Scrums were uncontested which gave the Islanders the advantage of utilising their famous style of running rugby to outdistance the Quins on many occasions, eventually winning the match 15 - 38.
But it was no walkover. Island organisers Martin Chong and Michael Nielsen were both impressed with how Quins defended and took their opportunities.
"We were actually disappointed in our game" said Nielsen. "We've beaten London Scottish 3rds and Blackheath 2nds by 75 points before. It's a real credit to the Quins that they stopped us getting our game going."
A one minute silence preceded the game in memory of the victims of the Bali bomb which added a poignancy to the Fijian's celebrations.
The Islanders opened their account early with a try under the posts which was converted easily in the mild conditions.
Three minutes later, Quins had their first points on the board - scored by an 'honorary' Quin for the day Tim Vereivalu who touched down after a concerted drive for the line.
The Pacific Islanders added two more converted tries before a drive by the forwards gave Kwasi Appah the opportunity to go over in the corner. Half time score was 10 - 21.

Captain Andy Robinson goes for a run
Despite good defence in the second half, the Pacific Islanders put three more tries on the board, with one conversion. Henry Quinlan was unlucky to have a try disallowed due to a prior infringement. The final try for Quins was scored by hooker Jon Fairweather when Brad Westcott pounced on the ball after an error by the Islanders, went outside then passed back to Fairweather to cross the line. With no conversion the final score was 15 - 38.

Jonny Fairweather takes on the Islanders
Chong was pleased that all the Island players came on for at least part of the game - including those who became honorary 'Quins' for the day. "It's been difficult getting everyone together each week, but today we wanted everyone to be a part of our celebrations".

A rucking good time was had by all
Even Amateurs Manager Chris Kelly made a short but brilliant appearance in the second half acquitting himself well against the staunch Island defenders. Adding to the atmosphere of the afternoon was the film crew who were filming the Pacific Islanders for the IRB 'World of Rugby' programme.
After the game, the Pacific Islanders treated everyone to local songs in the West Stand bar before continuing their Independence celebrations at the Old Wimbledonians club.
