Harlequin Ladies 27-17 Camberley
By Ros Holder October 8 2007
On a bright but hazy Sunday afternoon yesterday, HLFC pitted their wits against Camberley WRFC in Surrey. The game was well spirited, enjoyable to watch and clearly skilful. HLFC dominated possession of the ball and territory in the first 20 minutes but it took them all that time to get a score on the board.

It was a fast paced game with the ball being kept alive by a lot of popping off of the ball before going to ground.

Camberley were strong in defence and threatened HLFC’s defensive line on a number of occasions with a fast attack out wide. Amy Gibbons narrowly missed out on scoring a try by the posts just before half time. By the end of the first half it was 15-10 to Harlequins.

At half time, coach Alex Mead gave a quick appraisal of the game so far and let everyone know what it was he expected and required of the team.

In the second half Camberley were clearly finding the fast game tiring and HLFC were knocking them flying. There were several breaks for injuries and this contributed to a wobbly ten minutes for Quins Ladies. Scrum half Karen Cardy was sent off for the last ten minutes of the game for over enthusiastic rucking with her boot, perhaps indicative of Quins newly acquired aggression.

With a good balance between forwards and backs play, a further 2 tries were scored by the Ladies, one converted by Amy Gibbons. Tries were scored by Jo Everett, Kay Reese, Katy Strudwick, Chevonne Rennison and Cat Smith.

The final score was 27-17 to Harlequin Ladies.
